Many of my piercings have been on "impulse".....this was yet another....I was browsing some of the tattoo shops in downtown Vancouver, and have been wanting my septum pierced for quite some time.....it came to me, I couldn't leave the shop without having another hole poked thru me. For reasons unknown, I've always been a little scared to get my septum, which is odd as I've got a few genital piercings, but I always thought it would hurt, a lot.

I asked how much a septum piercing would be, toyed around with the idea, and went for it! I've had a few piercings done at 1st before and I was happy with the cleanliness and atmosphere of the shop, but the nervousness quickly grew in my stomach. I signed the papers, and sat to wait while my piercer got the room ready. Trying to calm yourself before any piercing is nearly impossible, actually letting yourself be nervous makes the rush so much more intense!!!

"Alright, were all set"

He asked how I was doing and if I'd eaten anything that day. Real friendly guy, even tho I don't recall his name. (oops) I sat up on the big dentist type chair while he poked and propped at my nose. What an odd feeling to have someone else's fingers up your nose, I was afraid I'd have boogers and he'd find them on his fingers after, but thankfully, my nose was clean. :) He then took a q-tip with soap and cleaned the inside of my nose, to this moment, I can still smell it. When that was done he took his time making the marks on the inside and outside on my nose (not sure why the outside, but he was the expert) when he was satisfied he handed me a mirror to double check as best as I could (it's not easy to see up your nose) I was happy he took the time to make sure his marks were perfect as possible. Everything looked good. He put a receving tube at one end of my nose and told me take a few deep breaths, then breath in through my nose and out through my mouth. There wa s no counting, which I was kinda thankful for, he just said "ready" and pushed it thru. I didn't hear a crunch like I've read in some other experiences, just a stinging sensation while my tears rolled down my face. I have to admit, it wasn't that bad.

I had decided on a 14 gauge retainer, easy to hide from parents who think "if you weren't born with it, you don't need it" The retainer hurt a bit going in, but not much at all....so, I was finished, eyes still watering, but happy, it looked pretty straight, and oooh, I had finally done it! I sat and talked with the piercer for a few minutes to make sure I wasn't going to faint or feel dizzy getting up, he told me how to flip it up into my nose (with some weird facial expressions to boot) and told me to come back in a few weeks so he could check it out.

Easy to clean as well, 2-4 times a day with soap, once a day with a salt soak, make sure to remove all dried guck that may appear, and make sure hands are clean before touching ANY piercing. and NO rubbing alcohol, it will dry out your piercing, and kills the skin cells you need to heal your piercing, and that doesn't look nice, and can't be good for your fresh piercing. No ointments either, like Polysporin or Neosporin, it's meant for waterproofing cuts and will not break down in your body.

It's been about 6 hours since I got it pierced, did my first cleaning, it feels great, I'm gonna soak it before bed and try and master the art of flipping it up. I've bumped it a few times, I already forget it's there, almost feels natural, expect for the little bit of weight from the retainer.

I can't wait until it's healed enough to change the jewelry to a barbell,(3-4 months) going to have to find me one without a bead!! As for my next piercing, which will be done by Teagan at Anatomic Adornments, a second tongue barbell, and a double belly button, I can't wait! I look forward to being pierced by T-Gun!

I wish I hadn't waited this long to get my septum pierced, it looks great and will be a favorite piercing of mine for sure! One of many favorites that is! I encourage anyone wanting a septum piercing to any other piercing for that matter, do the research, and go for it!

Thanks for letting me share my story, if you have any questions, be sure to message me on IAM!!

Happy Piercing!
