I've always said to myself, if you really want something then do it because it is better to regret doing it than regret not doing it. I'm not really sure if that applies in this case but I'm sure further down the road it will.

Since I'm now living in a small town there really isn't anything to do except go to the Walmart Super center when you're bored. One fateful night on the way to Wallyworld, I just happen to look out the window and to my surprise there was a piercing studio smiling back at me. I was tempted. The feeling of being pierced rushed back and hit me hard and I was again having those feelings of addiction. Plus on top of all that I was having a bad week and I wanted something to cheer myself up with. I had to do it or I would go mad, but with the days that passed by I slowly started to lose that feeling of needing to be pierced.

Two days ago while I was on my way to a meeting with the dean of our school with a friend, she suddenly brought up that she wanted to get her nose pierced. I was up for that. After our meeting we rushed back to our townhouse and decided that we were going to go get pierced that day, giving it absolutely no thought at all. Her and another friend and I all piled into a car and drove off to the shop. When we got there, there was a sign on the door saying open but the door was locked. Idiot me had left my cell phone back at the house that day so we had to call from a near by restaurant. To our luck he was booked that day so we would have to come back another day.

Being disappointed was bad but having to wait to get it done was worse, even though I would only have to wait another day. The next day dragged on until finally the day when I could get pierced came.

I should have known that no matter what, the day that I get pierced is always a bad day. I overslept and almost missed my 9am class, my contacts wouldn't go in, and various other little mishaps occurred. Armed with my $20, though, I was determined to get my nose pierced. Our appointment had been set for 2:30pm so we had time to eat before we went. By the time we gotten back to the shop to my disappointment my friend had decided to back out of getting her nose pierced as well.

I had heard from various people that the shop really wasn't the best place to get pierced, but another friend of mine said that she knew the guy and he was really good. When first walking in, the smell of cigarettes overcame you. The shop really didn't look that clean but I had faith in the guy and I was so determined that I refused to leave unpierced.

Jake was really friendly and got started on me right away. I watched him put rubber gloves on right away before he even broke the needle out of its package. He marked a spot on my nose after cleaning it with some stuff that really stung my eyes. I had him move the dot only to settle on the original dot that he made. The piercing itself was a breeze. Clamps and a needle and you're done. Well, maybe not that simple. First he put the clamps on my nose. I've never had that before so it was a new experience for me. I had heard that the clamps are the worst part but I barely noticed them. He then proceeded to line up the needle and after asking me if I was ready stuck it through. So there I was sitting in the chair with a needle yet again through my nose. What would mom say about that? He followed through with an 18 gauge CBR with a bead to match all the rest that I have in my ears. I was hoping for a nose screw but I settled for the CBR. He told us that he doesn't pierce with th ose only because it makes it harder to clean the piercing but if I wanted once it healed I could change it to that if I so choose. He straighten it for me and then I hopped off the chair grinning from ear to ear. I paid then asked him some questions about aftercare then I was off.

I really hadn't felt much pain during the piercing. To me it didn't hurt. It was something I could ignore. Ten minutes after my nose throbbed for a little bit but then it subsided and it hasn't come back. It only hurts if I knock it by accident. The redness faded with in a half hour and it hasn't swelled noticeably at all. So far this has been one of my better piercing experiences. Normally I'm a bleeder so I was very surprised that I walked away without even a trace of blood.

My aftercare usually consists of Bactine and leaving it alone. I've learned that the less you touch is constantly fuss over it, the quicker it heals. The constant playing with a new piercing will only rip the healing tissue and make life terribly painful during the duration of the healing process.

I really like the look of my newest addition to my small collection. I never had a reason for getting pierced except I was in the mood and I had some money to burn. The more and more I look at it the more and more I grow to love it. Just because I didn't have a reason for doing it though, doesn't mean that it won't hold great meaning for me. It will always remind me of my stay here in Bradford and the people that I've met.

If anyone has ever had qualms about getting pierced, listen to your inner gut. I probably should have walked out of the shop when I walked into and saw it was kind of slummy. I'm glad though that didn't stop me though because at that moment I proved to myself that I could get pierced. Happy piercing to you all and please take care.
