Like a lot of people out there, I had lived most of my life thinking that septum piercings were kind of ugly. Around the time I was in 11th or 12th grade, I actually met a few people who had them and looked decent, so I revised my opinion: they looked alright on some people, but they weren't for me. I held on to this idea until about the time I was in my second semester of college, and had been on bme and iam for 4 or 5 months at least. To my utmost surprise, I actually began to consider getting my septum pierced! At first I wasn't planning on getting it anytime soon, but eventually I just felt it was necessary for me to do it, like it would help to complete me or something. So, a few weeks ago, I finally decided that the next body mod I got would be my septum piercing. I got my paycheck on Friday and cashed my check, since I was planning on getting it done the following afternoon. I intended to get it done at Beyond Taboo Tattoo & Piercing, the studio that had pierc ed my labret for the third time, and that had recently done an Operation Ivy tattoo for a friend of mine. I called the studio and got a price quote of $40 bucks, which I thought sounded pretty good. Everything was going according to plan. Then, disaster struck.

I was quite distraught at first, since I had been really stoked about the piercing, but I was able to deal with it, especially when my Mom suggested that I use my passport instead of my driver's license.
And so it was that on Monday, I took some money out of the bank (after getting a new bank card, which was in the missing wallet), took my last final at school, and made my way to the piercing studio. I went in at about 1 pm and asked the piercer on duty (who's name is Ray) if they would accept a passport in lieu of a driver's license. He said that it was cool, so I filled out the standard forms and went into the piercing room. He cleaned my nose and we talked about the piercing and what he was going to do and stuff, just bullshitting around. He made me feel very much at ease. Which was cool. Then he put the tube clamp on my soft spot. That hurt a bit. He slid the needle through, and it wasn't bad at all, just some slight pain at first. I told him I wished I had brought my camera so I could always have a shot of the needle in my nose, so he took a pic with his digital cam and said he'd send me a copy. Then he put the jewelry in, closed it up with pliers, and I got to look into the mirror. I loved it! We shot the shit a little more, and he told me the standard do's and don'ts of my new piercing. After that I paid him and tipped him $10, as I was pleased with his work. I didn't really experience the adrenaline rush until I had already gotten into my car and was driving down the road smoking a clove; it coincided with my nicotine rush. That was nice.
When I got home, my brother and several of my friends said that it looked great on me, and suited me. That was cool, since none of them really liked septum piercings. My parent's reactions were not as wonderful. My stepdad didn't actually say anything to me about it, but I could tell that he disapproved. My mom says she hates it and doesn't understand why I had it done, but I expected that. She thinks piercings are gross, in general. She also told me that she loves me anyway, so I suppose it is ok.
It's been 5 days since then, and the healing is going fine. I've bumped it accidentally a few times, but that's to be expected. I've just been using q-tips to clean off the crusties, then using dial antibacterial soap to clean the CBR. I think that once its healed up a bit more I'm going to switch the jewelry out and get a CBB, and maybe try and gauge it, down to a 10 at least. I've heard that they can be difficult to stretch, but Ray told me it wasn't bad at all, and since his is stretched down to a 4 gauge, I'm taking his word for it. I'm really glad that I decided to get this piece of work done, and I would highly recommend it to anyone else. It has been a good experience, overall =)
