About 2 years ago I was living in San Mateo, California, 15 minutes south from San Francisco. I had finally found a real job where I had to look "normal", you know no visible piercings, and my hair had to be all one natural color. It had it benefits though I was making good money and I had a 3 hour lunch break.

Not having any piercings, other than my tongue, was really starting to bug me, a lot. So one day, when I was going on my lunch break I decided to head up to the city, and get my septum pierced.

I hopped into my sad little corolla that really didn't want to go on the freeway, it didn't want to go anywhere to be honest. I drove up to Haight street, and parked, in the Mcdonald's parking lot of course. Where else is there to park up there?

I then skipped (and yes I did actually skip) down the street to Cold Steel America. They are located on the second block down from Amoeba Music. I walked in the door, and Mic, the only person who has pierced me since I got my tongue done, was standing at the counter. I really like them there a lot, they are always very friendly and professional. I ran up and said

"Hey Mic! Wanna put a hole in my face? I'm on my lunch break!"

He laughed and said

"Sure, why not, what do you want to get this time"

So I told him that I wanted my septum done, because I had gotten a new job, and it was a piercing that I could hide up in my nose while I was at work. He had me fill out all the paper work, I haven't done that a few times or anything. And since it was in the middle of the day on a Friday, I didn't have to wait at all.

He took me into the first room and had me sit on the table. He showed me everything that he was going to use. And explained to me about how everything is sterile. He put on the gloves. Then he cleaned the whole area up. It is a very weird feeling to have someone stick a cold, wet, Q-tip up in your nose, if you know what I mean. He checked everything out and made sure he had it all lined up correctly. Then he told me to take a deep breath, and then, POP, the needle was through. Boy did my eyes water for that one. Mic then put the retainer in, had me check it out in the mirror. I had the biggest grin on my face! Then he flipped it up into my nose and explained to me that I should keep it like that for about a month. So that it could heal, and that if I kept it down I would run a higher risk of it falling out. All of the disposable items went into the Bio-Hazard bucket.

He gave me everything that I would need to keep the piercing clean. And told me to clean it two times a day and not to play with it, he said that trying to keep a very stern look on his face. He asked me if I was doing ok. I looked at him with this huge grin on my face and said

"Oh hell yeah! You know guys should give some sort of frequently pierced discount or something"

He chuckled and said that they should get punch cards or something like that. We sat and chatted for a few minutes because I hadn't been up for a while, like I said they are very friendly there.

I had to head back to work then. Mic told me to come back in a month to get the jewelry and he would put it in for me. He gave me a hug and I hopped out the door all giddy. Skipped back up the street and got into my sad, sad little car.

When I got back to work my boss asked me how my lunch was. I giggled this evil little giggle and told him I got my septum pierced. He had no idea what that was, so I explained it to him.

He wanted to see it but I told him that I couldn't play with it, but that I would show him when I got the jewelry in it,in a month. He then proceeded to lecture me, on how I had better keep it in my nose while I was working. I agreed, while rolling my eyes.

Later that day I received a call form a friend who had an extra ticket to the Static X show that night. Of course I wanted to go, so when I got off work that night at 6 o'clock, I headed over to her house to pick her up. And then set off, back to the city once again.

The show was great, of course. But I do not recommend ever getting something pierced, and then going to a concert that same night. Especially if you like to go into the pit, the way that I do. It normally doesn't hurt THAT bad when you get bumped in the nose, but I almost fell to the ground it hurt so bad. The funny thing is, now, I have a job where I can look anyway I want, but I am so used to having it up in my nose that I never wear it down.
