Originally I'm from Halifax, Nova Scotia. About 6 months ago my boyfriend moved away to London Ontario. It was during summer so I had no school so I decided to go visit him. I had been thinking about getting a my septum pierced for a little while now and figured it might be a good way to remember my little vacation.

My boyfriend had been thinking about getting his nipples pierced and had already checked out most of the shops in London. After his recommendations, and checking a few places out myself I decided to go visit Addictives. I went and talked to the piercers there and they told me it would be Jacquie who would be doing the piercing. I talked it over with her and she told me to come back the next day at 1. That fit my schedule so I made the appointment and left a deposit.

The next day I was pretty nervous, but very excited. My boyfriend and me went downtown and went out to lunch before the big moment. I figured it would be good to have some food in my stomach before getting the piercing so I would have energy.

I Went to addictives and went upstairs and talked to Jacquie. She told me it would be a few more moments because she had to prep her room for the piercing. I decided to go outside and have a smoke at this point to calm my nerves a little bit. My boyfriend warned me that cigarettes would lead to my eventual slow and painful death, but I paid no attention to him or his threats about carvings an 'X' in my back. Silly sXe boys. Hahahaha.

So anyways, when I went back upstairs we were ready to start. Dave (my boyfriend) came into the room with me and Jacquie explained everything to me. She told me all about the after care procedure as well a step-by-step guide as to what she would be doing in the next few minutes.

She opened a sealed package and took out a very small needle. She then cleaned my nose a bit and felt for a good soft spot to pierce my septum. She explained to me that if it wasn't perfectly straight that she would repeirce it again once, and if that weren't perfectly straight then I would have to come back in a week or so and have it re-done. I crossed my fingers hoping that it would be straight the first time.

She then put some big piece of metal up my nose and explained that this would stop the needle from piercing the side of my nose. It was a little uncomfortable, and made me kind of nervous. Jacquie then told me to take three deep breaths, and on the third one she pushed the needle through. I squeezed Dave's hand tightly as she did the piercing. It was over within a second though and I just remember hoping sooo much that it was perfectly straight so I wouldn't have to have it done again. It didn't hurt too much, but I didn't really want to go through it again. Jacquie took a step back, and to my relief said that it was perfectly straight. She then proceeded to switch the needle in my nose for a small retainer. This was quick and painless. I decided the retainer would be a good choice because I could flip it up inside my nose so it would be easily concealed for work, which is closed minded and frowns on facial piercings.

Jacquie than gave me a sheet of paper with all the instructions printed on it so I wouldn't forget the cleaning methods she told me to use. I paid my money and left a happy customer.

That night I put a bit of spectro-gel on the end of a q-tip and cleaned both sides of the jewelry. After washing it off, I soaked a cotton ball with a sea salt/water mixture and put it on each side of the piercing for 5 minutes. I continued this method for three weeks.

The healing went fairly smooth, except for one night. I blew my nose really hard and the retainer fell right out!! I spent a good 10 minutes trying to find it, and then gave up, deciding I needed to put something in it right away. After all I had only had the piercing for a week or so at this point. I had a cbr that I used to wear in my ear in my bedroom so I put that in. It took a bit of patience but I eventually got it in. This irrated it, and slowed down the healing process a bit, but everything still turned out well in the end.

I've had my septum now for about 6 or 7 months and I love it. Occasionally people mistake it for a booger in my nose, but besides that there's nothing bad about it! For anyone thinking of getting one, I'd say definitely go for it!!
