Everyone thinks that I am having a "mid-life crisis" because I bought a Jeep and got my right nostril pierced. I just tell them that they're right, and I'm doing it while I'm young enough to enjoy it! I'll be 38 next week.
At A Glance Author Vicki Contact Vicki@bme.anon Artist Jeff, I think Studio AAA Tattoos Location Siloam Springs, AR I've always been a little out of step with those around me, going my own way. When I was a teenager, I would have loved to dress "punk", but my parents would have DIED! I've always enjoyed being different, though.
A couple of years ago, I went to Cornerstone, in IL. This is a big Christian Rock Music Festival. There were people there with all kinds of piercings, and I was facinated. I talked to several girls about their nostril and eyebrow piercings, and my son and I both decided that we wanted ours done. My oldest daughter wasn't with us, but she had decided the same thing.
My husband is VERY conservative. A few years ago he lost a bet, and had to get his ear pierced. I thought it was very sexy, but he couldn't stand it and took it out. He just couldn't understand why we wanted to do this, and just kept saying no. I tried to explain to him, but he just couldn't get it. Finally, this year as a graduation present to our daughter, I took her over to the tattoo parlour and got her left nostril pierced. It was great! When her dad realized that it wasn't this big hideous hole in her nose, he finally agreed to me getting mine done. I had my right nostril pierced. My son is still waiting for his dad to agree to him going, but as soon as we get the nod, I'm taking him right over! And while I'm there, I just might get that little gold ring for my left eyebrow that I've been looking at.
When we decided to get our piercings, we asked around to several friends who had had their navels and tongues pierced, to find out the best place to go. AAA Tattoo was one of the places in our area that was recommended, and they were the only ones around that would use a nose screw. My daughter had to have that so that she could hide it when she went to work.
They were really nice, but busy! People drive for hours to come to this place because they are really good! Also, tattoos are illegal in Oklahoma, and AAA is right on the Arkansas/Okalahoma line. So, both times we had about an hour or so wait. But it was certainly worth it!
Bailey, my daughter, got hers done about a month before I did. He used a needle. After cleaning off her nose, both inside and out, he marked the spot to pierce and checked with Bailey to make sure it looked good to her. It did. It only took a few seconds and her beautiful new nose jewlery was sparkling.
The same guy did mine, the same way. Bailey had a tear come out of her eye as a reflex, like getting hit in the nose. I was so excited that my eyes filled up, but no tears. I kept thinking it was going to hurt soon, but it never did! The only problem I had was that my nose didn't stop bleeding right away.
The healing has gone great. I wash it off in the shower like he told me, but I never have had any "crusties" build up. My nose itched for a couple of days, but now it's fine. I've only had it done for a month, and haven't changed out the nose screw, but I did buy a new one and am going to change it this week.
I teach at a middle school, 5th and 6th grades, and my assistant principle was a little leery of me getting it done. He was afraid that all the kids would go home and want their noses pierced, but most of the other teachers didn't even notice right away, and the kids think it's cool, but they don't say anything about getting their's done. I haven't had any parents say anything, but the year has just started!
I have received many compliments on my new look, and have been told over and over that it's "me". Most people don't want to believe me that it didn't really hurt. Or they'll say something like it looks great on me, but they could never do something like that. My husband still doesn't understand why I wanted it, but he's getting used to it, and maybe even likes it a little bit. Even my mom, who thought I was crazy at first, finally admitted that it "doesn't look that bad". Now, about that eyebrow....
