Heres the story, of a lovely septum, bringing up some very lovely crusties... OK, here goes... So four days ago I got my septum pierced for the second time. I had to take it out the first time because it was *obscenely* crooked. Like scary crooked. Anyway.

So my good friend Amy had come to visit me from Arizona for a week. She was set on a new tattoo or piercing (or both) before she left. So we woke up one morning, and decided it was the day for new holes in our body. I dont know of too many piercing shops in the Baltimore area, so we had to borrow Ma's car and drive all the way to Annapolis, about an hour away. I decided on Annapolis Fun City because first off, the owner (Kim) was really sweet, and from what I had seen, ran a great shop. The other reason I chose this shop was because I am on a tight budget, and I had a discount for Fun City because a guest piercer at thier shop had pretty much screwed my septum before.

We got to Fun City about 10 minutes before they closed (thanks again to Mr. Piercer for fitting us in...) While Amy putted around trying to decide what to get pierced, I got all cleaned and set up for my 10ga septum. Mr. Piercer found me a circular barbell that I could flip up into my nose when around the mom or at work. Then he had me sit up on the table thingy, and whipped out the Q-Tips and triadine, cleaned me up, looked things over, and told me to lay down. He said he does septums lying down because it is easier to see and get things straight. Good reasoning, I thought. So Amy was there for hand-squeezing. I laid back and he lined up the septum clamps on my septum. That hurt like a bitch, I'm not even gonna lie to sound tough. I said "ow" and he loosened them up a bit, but it still hurt like a mofo. It felt like it was slicing through the skin itself. Anyway. So I put up with that, and he lined up the needle. Told me to breath, blah blah blah, and started pushing. The clamp was on there so tight that I didn't even feel the needle for the most part-- the only time I felt it was when it popped through, and that's when I screamed "shit". I think the part that made it hurt so much was the clamp, because the first time I had it done the lady didnt use clamps. Or maybe it was because it was through scar tissue, who knows... Anyway. I lay there whimpering as he slid the jewelry through. I sat up, feeling fine, and looked down to see Amy almost passed out on the floor. Guess she wasnt going to get her nipples pierced like she had planned.

Anyway. So I checked out my septum. Asked the piercer lots of questions of many subjects... My septum was crooked once again, but this time Mr. Piercer informed me thats its not the piercers fault, but that I have a deviated septum and its gonna be crooked no matter what. He told me that if it didnt straighten out on its own by 4 weeks from now, then try downsizing the jewelry to a 12 ga and see what happens then, and if it doesnt then, its probably not going to at all. Then he gave me some bactine (uh oh), some triadine, and sent me on my merry way. It's only been 4 days so far, and I think *maybe* it has straightened out the tiniest bit, but that really could just be my hope and imagination. We shall see. My septum is my favorite piercing so I hope it all straightens out. Sometimes it is a pain in the ass having to flip it up all the time, and worry if any of the metal is showing... So far there is a little bit of soreness, I think mainly because I have to mess with it so much, such as cleaning it and flipping it up, down and all around constantly. The bloody crusties have stopped coming so much, and I can move the ring through the hole without pain. I want to stretch it to 6ga or 4ga, but thats only if it straightens out. If it doesnt straighten out on its own, I am going to take it out, let it heal up, and try to have it pierced to fit my nose and crooked septum, so that it looks straight, when in actuality and technicality it would be a crooked piercing. That's my last resort, and hopefully I dont have to go there.
