here is my little story about septum piercing:-) at this very moment i would love to get a vertical labret or maybe a lip piercing but due to my mom situation:-)that is just not going to happen...so one day i was just thinking about what other piercing that i liked that i could possibly get that was easy to conceal and the thought of a septum piercing crossed my mind. the more i thought about it, the more the idea sounded good, but being the practical gal that i am i had to look into it and give it some thought.(highly recommend that:-)
At A Glance Author northstartrader Contact northstartrader@hotmail.com Artist tim Studio aardvark tattoo Location st. johns, mi my first question was about pain, how painful is it? or basically, is it worth the pain to get it? i knew several people with their septums pierced so i asked around. i got everything from "didn't hurt at all" to "it felt like getting hit in the face with a baseball bat"...so i was confused. so i stopped by the trusty bme to see if i could find anything out. and to my dismay i found the same sort of a mixed reaction..some people said that it was the WORST pain that they had had, and some people said they experienced NONE.
basically i decided screw it, i want it, i think it looks good, it's easy to conceal fun cool let's xrock thisx. i mentioned my decision to my friend eric, who said he had also been wanting to get his done for a while so he and i decided to go together, which was super fun and i totally recommend it..but anyway...
we chose to go to aardvark because i had gone there before to get things done and tim did a great job. tim is really good and explaining things and making you feel comfortable and at ease. also with the autoclave in plain view it was impossible to question the cleanliness of the place (not that i would anyway since i know him).
we got to tim's shop and i was the first to go under the needle...i psyched myself up for a lot of pain so when the needle actually went through my whole body shook BUT it was almost completely painless!! craziness! my eyes watered a little, whatever, who cares? i was really amazed and i REALLY liked how it looked (i'm all about "secret"piercings")eric went next and i held his hand:-)then he made fun of me for shaking because it didn't hurt him at all either.
as far as cleaning and healing goes....well, i would recommend trying to avoid getting bumped in the face at all costs. i kept snapping myself in the face with things like my seatbelt and such because i'm a nerdy klutz. the first few days i did salt soaks with the occasional dial soaked q tip up the nose...because i bumped it so much i think it bled a little more than usual but it wasn't a big deal. it was only bloody for a couple of days. the area was very tender but the healing process only takes about 3 weeks which is really rad. i didn't clean it as faithfully as i usually do because eric said that he read on here that it recommended not to really do too much to your piercing in the way of cleaning adn let nature take it's course, so that is what i did and it turned out fine:-)it's all healed up now. i have a 16 ga. circ. barbell horseshoe whatever you want to call it and i looove it. i'm all about little cute septums:-)i think that the septum piercing is one of those piercings that looks good on nearly everyone. and i'm a huge fan of the fact that it is pretty stress free if you have a job or a parent who thinks piercing and tattooing is a "grotesque mutilation" and will kick you out of your house if you have any visible facial piercings.:-)
so basically this is my *pain* summary: *put your fingers up your nose and feel around a little and see if you have a lot of cartilage (it will be harder, less flexible) or not...if you don't you are in luck because it will be easy for the piercer to find your "sweet spot" and it will be virtually painless (it hurt less than stretching my ears!)if not, you can expect a great deal of pain and that's just the truth. so it's up to you. but i think it's worth it. because the pain goes away but you will be able to enjoy that piercing for a long time to come:-)
*i am not a piercer this is just my theory on how to figure out the amt. of pain you will expect.either way though. it's worth it. bring a friend for twice the fun:-)xxoo
