I had been thinking about getting a piercing for a while, the only thing stopping me was my mom; she views body piercing as a sick and demented mutilating idea. Needless to say, she has strong feelings against my getting pierced. This said, I should also mention that I have my tongue pierced, a piercing she made me wait 6 months for until my sweet 16 came along. She figured since it wasn't visible that it was alright to have. I also had that done at Black Sun by Pierre. The studio is well known here for its quality, cleanliness and incredibly friendly service. Too many people go to a piercing studio because it's cheaper than a good one. Those people could live to regret it.

I decided on the septum piercing because I could conceal it whenever I needed or wanted to: from my mom, work, school, etc. I also happen to think it's very attractive and different. I've seen few people around here with it done, so the fact that it's not common increased my desire. It's funny though because the first time I saw someone with a septum piercing was on an episode of Jonovision and some cool vegan guy had it, but I was disgusted by it. Ohhh how times change.

So I finally made an appointment after getting the nerve to, and the anticipation began to rise. The next day I met my friend and we were off to St-Denis street to Black Sun. The tip of my nose had been tingling for a few days, a psychological sign I needed to have it done. We had some time to kill before my 3:30 appointment so we went into some neat lil' store with african carvings and such. I noticed a marionnette on the wall with her septum pierced and that reinforced my day!

After filling out the form at Black Sun, I took a seat in their waiting room. I wasn't too nervous, just very excited. Azl called me in and I took a seat on the medical-like table-seat-thing. He explained everything to me very clearly and asked if I had any questions which he answered with reassurance. He told me that it could very much hurt, and to be aware of that. He also said it could not hurt at all, it all depends. We chose my jewelry, a 14g. retainer, which made Azl happy cuz he was all out of curved barbells. Everything seemed to be going soooo smoothly. He examined my nose after the "fingers up your nose warning" and determined I have a very symmetrical nose. The skin inside to be pierced was relatively thin too, which isn't always the case. Apparently, he said, septum piercings are one of the most erotic piercings to have. "You'll find out..."

He handed me three paper towels, in case I cried like a waterfall. I had a feeling I would too because I thought I had a sensitive nose. The nerves in your nose are connected to your tear ducts, that's why you cry. Anyway, he told me to keep breathing, in & out, at all times. I closed my eyes, and he mumbled under his breath, here we go. I felt the needle penetrate and travel accross the inside of my nose. It was such an incredible feeling, painless, in retrospect. I didn't cry either, my eyes got a little moist, but no tears. Maybe I was one of the lucky ones. So there I was, with a 14g. needle through my nose and it looked wicked. My friend looked like she was ready to pass out, so Azl made sure she was ok. He said many times it's the witness who passes out, not the piercee. He then put the retainer in, which didn't cause too much discomfort, again it was an alien sensation though. It was through and looked great! He explained aftercare procedures and made sure I had no more questions and I thanked him. It cost me 78 dollars, 8 for Baxedin. I tipped him 5 dollars just because I felt so comfortable with him and he did such a great job.

I really recommend anyone in the Montreal area to go to Black Sun for any piercing job because a lot of the places out there aren't clean and don't treat you with such respect and decency as they do at Black Sun. (And no they don't pay me to say this) Some people who don't want to pay the extra bit of cash should at least call and ask for a reference to another place. Check it out: blacksunstudio.com

Now, almost a week later, there hasn't been any pain, except for a sharp jolt of it yesterday when I wiggled my nose. No unusual discharge or abnormal amount of crusties either. I haven't had any trouble flipping it up, although I noticed some swelling. I get a lot of looks of disbelief and disgust but I got those before so it's all good! Hope this was helpful to someone out there. Pierce out.

=)
