Okay so first off, I'm 15 years old. I have my industrial, ears (obviously), nose, bellybutton and my most recent; tongue. I've wanted my tongue done for probably about three years, when I first saw my cousin come home with one(which she now has two).

I begged and begged, every time still a no. Eventually my mom gave in and agreed to take me but still wasn't too sure. I ended up going with my friend and her mother's boyfriend instead because she was getting it done too and I made her go first! Ha. So we had planned it for about 2 weeks and decided that we would go get it done together.
The day came, and we had to sit in school all day, it was brutal! We couldn't wait for it to be over. It was February 9th, 2009. We arrived at the piercing studio and the harsh realization started to kick in. I was petrified. I had piercings before and I heard good experiences about the tongue, but that all went away the minute we walked through the doors.
We walked in and were greeted by this one guy with long hair, tattoos and piercings. It kind of turned me off to be honest. Still, we wanted it so we started filling out the forms, and the guy at the front desk says that the tongue isn't bad at all. After we do that we walk into a small room and my friend sits down on the dentist like chair. I stood beside her and held her hand. She got hers done and she was in some pain but she was alright, it was bearable.
Next was my turn, oh boy.... I first said to my friend, Oh no... no I cannot get this done. She probably would've smacked me considering I made her go first. So I sit in the chair, the piercer whom I don't know his name finds the right spot and puts the clamp on, the first thing I said was OUCH! He started to laugh, I was thinking, this is not funny..... Anyway I was sort of confused as to why he didn't explain the aftercare procedures to us first and mark a spot and ask if it's good and whatnot considering all the stories I've read on BMEZINE have said that. I had too much adrenaline pumping that I didn't even think.
So the clamp is on and he says, breathe in and out and I breathed in and in goes the needle. OUCH. OUCH. OUCH. Pain. No joke... I think it might just be me or something, but it hurt like a motherf*cker. He pulls the needle out and instantly tears rolled down my face, I was shaking, I was scared. He puts the jewelry in and it hurt. He gave me some mouth wash to rinse with (after, yes I don't know why) and I instantly wanted my tongue ring out. It hurt, it was uncomfortable and awkward.
So we asked him about the aftercare procedures and all he said was rinse with mouthwash every time you eat, didn't even state to dilute it or anything, which wasn't very much help at all. I remember him saying you can go smoke a joint for all I care. Oh thanks for the comforting words. Me and my friend paid and we were on our way. She could not talk, her tongue swelled up instantly, yet mine had not, mind you, it hurt.
We got back to her house and instantly popped the ibuprofen and drank ice water and went to bed. The next day was hell waking up, yet my tongue was still not swollen. I needed to eat something, so I made some waffles, doused them in syrup to soften them up and attempted to eat one waffle. My friend still did not eat. It was very awkward eating as the bar was very long due to no swelling. That day at lunch at school, I managed to eat french fries, yet very slowly. I was making great progress considering most people can't eat solids for three-four days.
The next day was pretty much the same, still hurting way more in the morning waking up since you don't control your mouth while you sleep. It is now the sixth day and I'm doing great but I desperately need to change this long barbell as it's clanking on my teeth, and I have retainers from having braces.
I'm still going to wait a few days to change the barbell since the piercer told me to wait two weeks, but I can not wait that long. The main advice I would give anyone is DO NOT DRINK MILK. Oh my gosh, I tried to eat cereal, and yes, it burns.......... I never thought dairy products would be a problem but who am I to say so?
I decided not to name the place as I didn't like my experience very much and I don't want to make them look bad.
If you're looking in to getting your tongue pierced, go for it. It hurt's, unless that was just me, but it will be worth it. I can play with it somewhat now but I just can't wait for it to fully be healed. If you have any questions feel free to email me and good luck with your future piercing experiences! :D
