I'm a pretty standard teenager as it goes, I have pretty much all the common interests and afeww of my very own. I'm almost unhealthily impulsive. I had been planning on getting my tongue pierced for a while so my mum suggested that she pay for it fro my 15th birthday, but the day me and my mum went to my usual piercing shop it was closed so we obviously left it for another day.

The piercer was a huge man with a large gauge septum ring, he said he could and led me up to the sterile upstairs room where all the piercing are done and told me to sit down on the hospital style bed, Leah sat next to me for moral support and so she could fill in the forms for me as I didn't have my tinted glasses, once she was done I signed to say it was all true and the piercer checked to make sure I was definitely 16, paperwork done and filed he washed his hands and put on a pair of latex gloves.
he checked my tongue was appropriate to pierce by having me stretch it out and then press the tip against the roof of my mouth or my teeth and push forward with the middle but so my tongue spread out. As he saw no problems or veins ect in the way he began to prepare me to be pierced.
He got out all the equipment he needed as far as I can remember there was a long 1.6 mm plain surgical steel barbell, the standard clamps, a disposable needle that was still in its packaging and a needle pusher, Nothing was used to numb or my mouth and tongue, but I did have to rinse with Listerine.
I had to put my tongue out as far as I could as he clamped it, which was not very uncomfortable then he counted to 3 and up went the needle through the bottom of my tongue and out through the top. It was a weird feeling like a mix of pressure and slight burning. Slightly like biting your tongue when you do it on purpose though the feeling of something going through the middle parts of my tongue felt a little odd, it still does when I change the jewelery. It was extremely uncomfortable sitting there with my tongue out with the clamps hanging off it, waiting for the jewellery to be put in, and my friend making sick noises didn't help me out much as I tried to hold still, not drool, and not laugh at her Putting the jewellery in was a little bit strange but not painful as I expected.
Off came the clamps and my tongue went back into my mouth, it felt completely natural to me even though he bar was very long and rubbed on the top and bottom of my mouth.
Once I had a look I noticed that along with the small amount of blood the bar seemed to be a few mm to far to the left at the top hole but I put this down to the length of the bar or a little bit of swelling so I happily paid and left promising to return in three to six weeks to have a smaller bar put in. the piercer apparently thought it would be funny to offer me a boiled sweet which I gave up on eating and fed to someone else.
Actually, that night when I got home I just went to bed in order to escape talking to anyone and trying to get myself out of the pain I was feeling at the moment. While it's understandable, I was still quite shocked at the amount of soreness there was
After the ease of the initial piercing the aftercare was a total nightmare, my tongue was so swollen that for about two I couldn't even stick my tongue out past my teeth because I would feel the pressure of the swelling and it would hurt. A day after the piecing when the swelling came up I could barely talk only my girlfriend could understand me and the word 'three' was extremely difficult.
It was also really painful to eat for the first week or so, so I just didn't bother for the first few days because to be honest I've never felt so sore and pained with any other piercing. And If it hurts- don't do it. So I didn't do it . I spent those days drinking mass amounts of cold water and cold tea.
But once the new barbell was in I was astounded I'd liked the piercing when I was in loads of pain because of it but now it didn't hurt and the swelling was gone I loved it. and so do any partners of mine its not just a myth that its good for oral.
It was the part of my body I'd been missing every time I get interrupted when I'm changing the bar and have to swallow or speak with out it I feel wrong, it's a horrible squeamish type of wrongness that I couldn't deal with for any longer than it takes me to get the new jewellery in (I find its easier to put the jewellery in from the bottom while I hold my tongue against my teeth especially if I don't have a mirror)
In general I had a pretty average time with this piercing so chances are if you're getting your tongue done It'll probably act like mine though obviously plenty of people have totally different experiences from that.
