I first thought about getting a tongue ring it was when I saw another girls in my class. It stuck out to me because the ring was plastic and not metal. I liked it because it looked more feminine and less hardcore or punk then the metal ones or others I have seen. After that I thought about it a lot for about a week. I started researching the piercing and working on my mom to let me get it. I learned about how it sometimes chips your teeth so I decided after it healed I would only wear plastic ones. After working on my mom for a while she still hadn't said yes so I just figured I would ask for it later on my sixteenth birthday. I already had my belly button pierced but it kept getting infected because all the ones I was buying were cheap metal.

When we got there all the ones were really expensive, and I realized that the cost of a tongue ring would be the same as the belly button ring I wanted (which was like 70 dollars). So I went in the car and convinced my mom. What really got her was that I just said it was like a form of expressing my self and just because she didn't like how it looked didn't affect me. Seriously though, parents shouldn't have control of how kids decide to dress.
So in the car before going in I was really freaking out, I had never been so nervous about a piercing before. I went in and the guy there was kind of weird, but he was older and experienced so it made me less scared. When I got in there he was making the same lame jokes the guys always make at Jade Dragon. I know this because my friends have gotten piercings and from getting piercings in the past. I guess they do it to try to calm you down, but it didn't really help cause it just annoyed me.
To prepare for the piercing the guy had me gargle with Listerine. Except it wasn't the minty kind it was brown and tasted really bad. I don't know why they use that instead of the regular kind but whatever. The guy put a paper towel on my chest because a lot of people drool when it happens. He clamped my tongue. He said that part is supposed to hurt, but it hardly hurt at all. It just felt like a pressure on my tongue, but not painful. After he clamped it he stuck the needle through and it was pretty quick. It was less painful then my belly button because it took a shorter time. Him screwing in the balls afterward kind of hurt because my tongue was out and it was like pulling. Overall, that part hardly hurt at all.
Afterwards on the ride home it didn't hurt at all. It wasn't swollen or anything and there was a lot of extra space on the bar to prepare it for swelling. I started playing with it a lot which was a mistake. It got really swollen really fast and it was hard to talk. Afterwards I tried to eat and it was extremely painful. The next couple days I ate mostly icecubes because eating hurt a lot. It wasn't like I couldn't eat it's just like all the things I wanted to eat were hard to. It seamed like all of a sudden I was able to after three days I was able to eat everything with hardly any pain. Having to gargle after every meal was a pretty big pain. It did keep me from snacking, and stuff so I guess that's a good thing.
I was able to stop gargling about a month of having the piercing. Changing the piercing the first time was kind of scary but after a couple times I got used to it. Changing it doesn't hurt at all. I can barely feel it most of them time. Overall I'm really happy with how my tongue piercing looks. It's easy to change so I can change it almost every day to match different outfits and stuff. I have gotten compliments on it but some people don't like it. You can hardly see it most of the time so I don't really care if people don't like it. I don't like some of the bad assumptions that come with having a tongue ring. A lot of people assume people who have them are slutty or suck a lot of dick. I guess if you are a slut that would be a positive thing haha? I dunno. I find it fun to make out with people with it because I think it makes it a more interesting and fun experience for me. So far other people have liked it too. I defiantly recommend getting a tongue piercing to anyone who wants it.
