When It just happened
Location Liverpool
I went to a studio in Liverpool 2 days ago to have my tongue pierced after wanting it done for at least two years and never having the guts. I've spoken to a few people who said Naahh it doesn't hurt all that much just a bit uncomfortable afterwards so I thought fantastic easy peasy I'll nip over to the piercing studio right before I do my shopping! The guy who carried out the piercing told me I wouldn't feel a thing I'd just feel stupid dribbling all over from the anesthetic. I paid £35 for it and in two weeks I have to go back to have the bar replaced to a smaller one, if I've healed enough by then which is an extra £5. That is pretty expensive but it seemed to be a quality place and I think I had all the staff come chat to me about their own piercings/mine etc while I was drooling in pain afterwards!

I queued for a while and then it was my turn for the talk and as he talked me through what I can and can't do during the healing process...no hot food, no performing oral sex, saltwater 4 times a day etc I could feel a knot in my stomach I was so nervous. He took me through to 'the chair' rubbed bubblegum anesthetic on my tongue, which tasted nice but stung a bit as it numbed my mouth then announced that they only used tweezers to hold no clamps!! I'm thinking OH MY GOD, closed my eyes and he stabbed me with what felt like a maschetti, I let out a wail and my eyes filled up as he put the bar though it was so painful! It was all over and done with quite quickly but I did have my eyes closed, gripping my friends hand the whole way through!

I was given a cup of crushed ice to spoon into my mouth to reduce the swelling and spent the whole night eating ben n jerrys n ice cold grape juice and getting used to talking funny. My flatmates laughed at me while i mastered K and L and felt very sorry for myself. The piercer told me I also had to drink ice cold beer which i thought was odd but tried some last night, v nice! Although I drunk a Corona with Lime and the Lime stung a bit so good advice not to eat or drink anything citrusy.

Woke up with huge swelling yesterday, dry mouth really sore n managed to eat spaghetti bolognese by sucking chopped up bits of pasta to the back of my mouth n swallowing whole! Tried to eat chinese chicken n sweetcorn soup last night with no joy the bits kept getting stuck and had to wash every mouthful down.

Today has been the worst day yet, woke up with very soremouth allover and piercing was bleeding a little. I've been taking ibuprofen 4 times a day to help with swelling aswell but doesnt seem to do much. Attempted very runny Ready Brek this morning but was far too painful and sepnt rest of day with a huge lisp, had a milkshake and a slush puppy to keep me going and just managed some smooth mushroom soup and ice cream!

It's so frustrating watching other people eat nice food can't wait for this to heal and have something lovely n crunchy, going to a party tonight so will put the beer drinking advice to the test. Although watching every1 eating a nice buffet shall be a bit upsetting after my mushroom soup!

Another gross side effect is that my tongue is yellow as the piercer said it would be, even though he said it wouldn't be til about the 5th day that would happen. can't brush it off and I've got bad breath - I'm wondering if that means I'm healing fast or my body is just reacting badly to having a foreign object in one of its impotant organs!

The piercing looks hot though and my boyfriend loves it, I'd definitely say the experience has been worthwhile but I'm not sure I would put myself through that pain again. However, if my tongue heals well and there are no complications I would possibly consider having a second tongue piercing in the centre as mine at the moment is quite far back in my mouth. It's not visible at all when I speak so have to stick my tingue right out to see it, at least employers etc won't be put off! I'm just hoping that my bad breath and yellowness go away soon as all my mates keep asking to have a look then their faces drop in horror as I stick out my disease ridden looking, saliva sticky swollen tongue!
