I've always wanted a tongue piercing, but never got round to it. So the one day whilst on a shopping trip and passing the shop i normally get pierced in. I had the urge to just go for it.
At A Glance Author Sam Contact Sam@bme.anon When It just happened Artist Malcom Studio Sirius Location Hereford So my friend and I went in and asked whether there was any appointments left for today, the girl behind the counter said yeah he's got a slot at 3pm. That was fine.
Was quite nervous during the next 2 hours, thats the feeling I love.. the unexpected. I'm not new to piercings, this was my 7th.
3pm came in no time, so we headed back to shop. Filled in all the papers whilst waiting, I was so nervous yet really excited at the same time. We didn't have to wait to long, but had chance to browse through the shop. My friend wanted a new belly bar so we had a look for one, the girls are really helpful and friendly.
Then Malcolm came through with a friendly smile and lead me in. My friend came in with me, she wanted to see what he did. Which was fine.
His studio is really clean and tidy, which is reasuring. He owns 3 in total, and runs his own training course. That's how I know he is probably one of the best for the job around the area I live.
He told us to take a seat and went through all the cleaning and care for my new piercing, and then what he was going to do. He makes sure it does sink in how important the aftercare if you want it to be sucessful. I then hopped up onto his bed thing.
I stuck my tongue out and he then checked the veins to check it was safe to pierce. Got me to rinse my mouth with some mouthwash, and then dried it off and applied so cream that made my tongue go numb. Changed his gloves and then marked on where he was going to put it and checked with me that it was ok, fine. He then changed his gloves again and told me to breathe in and then out and then he'd stick the needle through.
I didn't feel a thing, maybe a tiny scratch but pretty much pain free. He then put the bar through explaining it had to be a bigger bar because it was likely to swell. I thought it was going to bleed loads but it hardly did at all. He then got me to rinse again with cold water and then showed me in the mirror my new piercing, I was pleased it looked great!
He talked me through the aftercare again, and try to avoid french kissing, oral sex, spicy foods, excessive drinking and smoking. But with the smoking to make sure I rinse well. The same goes for after eating aswell. He also said to gently clean the barbell with a tooth brush but making sure I hold the bottom of it to support it or else it would hurt like hell! And not to use the mouthwash to much as it could be harmful if its over used. Only use it once in the morning and once at night.
He then said to just pop in or give him a ring if there were any problems and to come back once the swelling has gone down and he'll put a smaller bar in.
I then went out to pay, it only came to £35. Which I think is fairly reasonable, he recommend a mouthwash to use Dentyl PH which is an alcohol free one and nurofen meltlets and sucking on crushed ice to help with swelling.
This is the second day with my new tongue piercing now, and I'd defiantly say the worst part is when its healing. It's quite sore and swollen, I can't eat soild food's very well. I think thats the worst thing. I've just had to eat soup, jelly, noodles, mushed banana and stuff like that. The first time I sucked on the ice, my god it was a weird feeling i felt it shoot right up my tongue, like it was actually being frozen! I think it's worth it though, and I'm sure my girlfriend will be thrilled once its healed and we can try it out! It looks great too!
My friend who was with me thought it was great and can't wait to get to get hers done.
I recommend Malcolm to anyone, his prices are great value, it only cost £35. He's really friendly and great at his job. He also does piercing courses for anyone whos intrested in giving it ago, his web site is www.synapsebodypiercing.co.uk theres lots of information on there about his courses and his studio and services in general.
