So the tongue piercing. I went with my cousin when she got hers done

and I realized that I kind of wanted mine done too. [this was in august, so I waited until December when I turned 18, so I didn't need parent permission, even though my dad said he was fine with it] Anyways, a few days before I decided to go get it done, which was like three days before Christmas, I was looking at videos on youtube.com of people getting theirs done, just so I wouldn't be too shocked when I got there. The day I was going to get it done, I wasn't even nervous, I was kind of just like, oh well if it hurts it hurts, if it doesn't it doesn't. So that kind of helped too.

I drove to pacific beach to enigma, to get it done.[I had heard good things about this place so I figured why not?] I went inside, and it was super clean and really cute.. I guess they turned this house into a piercing place. But I told the girl what I wanted and she asked to just look at my tongue to make sure it was piercable [I don't know what I would've done if she said it wasn't!!] she said she would need about five minutes to get everything ready. So in the meantime I filled out the paperwork and talked to the guy that was in the front. He was really nice and we just talked about different piercings and how if a piercing is done properly it shouldn't even hurt. His theory was how bad could something possibly hurt

if it only lasts less than a second? This made sense to me so even that helped my nerves with my tongue piercing. I went back into the room and sat on the table. She made me rinse with mouthwash and then marked my tongue and then I layed down. She told me to close my eyes and then she put the clamp on, and I now knew there was no going back. The clamp didn't even hurt. She told me to take a deep breath in, and then out. I think I was anticipating the needle going in so much, that I completely missed it because she was like ok keep your tongue out, I'm going put it in, and I was like the needle? And she was like no the jewelry. Haha I'm so lame.

But the most uncomfortable part I must say would be when she was tightening the ball on. Other than that it was fine. I went out to the front, got my instructions on how to take care of it, and left. I noticed I talked a little funny, but I really only had problems pronouncing L's and S's. It didn't really start swelling until the next morning. My tongue never really hurt, it was just more sore than anything. The first day after, I didn't really consume anything other than ice water, ice cream, popsicles, and a strawberries n cream frappacino, which was really good. I also ate a banana and two bean burritos. Minus the time consumption it took, it tasted good to get real food in my tummy! It isn't the chewing that'll get you it's more of the trying to swallow and maneuver the food around the bar.

Day two was pretty much the same. I woke up with some swelling and teeth marks around my tongue, from where it sat during the night. I ate scrambled eggs for breakfast, mashed potatoes and mac n cheese for lunch, and yet again another bean burrito for dinner. I am rinsing after everytime I eat, and I have also been rinsing with saltwater. I think i am going to cut down on the mouthwash only because it is turning my tongue a little white.

My few suggestions to you: research where your going to go. You will be thankful later on. Take ibuprofen as much as possible. Try not to talk that much the first few days, it just makes your tongue more sore and more tired. If you can, try to eat soft foods, like mashed potatoes or bananas or things like that, because you still want to be able to give your body nutrients so it can still heal the piercing. Soak your tongue in saltwater. From previous injuries in the mouth, I have found that rinsing[or soaking in this case for 7-10 minutes] really helps speed up healing process and also helps with the swelling. Use mouthwash to clean up your mouth after you eat or consume anything other than water. oh ya another thing they told me I would've never thought about, was to change your toothbrush!!You want to use a clean one, only to ensure that no germs from the pervious one are entering your body.

This is a really fast and easy piercing, and I can tell from the looks of it that if you take care of the piercing, it'll be healed in no time. Don't worry you will be able to eat again, might jus take a few weeks to get back into the swing of things, and you wont talk funny forever! So if you're thinking about doing it, just do it. You'll have fun with it!!!
