I have had my tongue pierced in one spot for well over a year now and last night whilst I was looking on the BME website I came across the section with Multiple tongue piercing and was very interested.

The following will include my piercing experience, 3-day aftermath and my aftercare routine.

As I said, my first tongue piercing was over a year ago but I still remember it very clearly. It was quick, pain free and over very quickly, and because of those reasons I became interested in adding an additional two piercing.

On Friday the 19th of February I went to Essential beauty and enquired about how much it would cost and some other queries I had in mind about placement of the piercing. I had no concern about the pain what so ever so I asked the piercer if I would be able to get it done right that minute. He agreed and led me into the piercing room.

He got me to sit down and poke out my tongue so he could look at where my already existing tongue piercing was so he could mark out where he was going to pierce. After much deliberation he marked out two dots, one behind the existing piercing and one infront. I lay down and he applied the clamp to the back dot and pierced it. I did feel a sharp sting and a pop feeling as it went through the other side but the pain was minor compared to what I was about to go through. As I was trying to stick my tongue out as far as possible the piercer had a hard time trying to attach the bottom ball because it was so far back on my tongue after about two literally drooling minutes he managed to attach it correctly and I was very thankful as my tongue was becoming very tired trying to extend it out for so long. The front piercing was much the same story accept he was much quicker at attaching the balls.

I sat up had a look at my new mouth full of metal and was shocked at how strange it looked, as it had not swelled yet so I had three 22ml bars (which I thought were abit over sized, even when taking the swelling into account. As an 18ml was only used with my first piercing.) Hanging out my mouth as it would seem.

Day 1 Friday 19

No swelling has occurred as yet but am expecting it to come over night, I was able to eat so fries from MacDonald's, I cannot move my tongue in anyway that feels comfortable so a tip for eating: feed the food in small pieces into one side of your mouth chew then hopefully it will seem to slide down your throat. I have taken four painkillers during the day to try and make these next few days as comfortable as possible. I have also noticed my speech has become slurred.

Day 2 Saturday 20

My tongue has become very swollen over night as I predicted, there are teeth marks on the front of my tongue were my tongue has been resting over night. Am still able to brush my teeth with minimal discomfort. As I presume I will be unable to eat my boyfriend made me an ice-cream milk shake. I was barley able to drink it but knew I had to consume something if I wasn't going to eat. I had soup later on that day; I found that warm things seem to go down easier than cold things as the cold things make me want to move my tongue to maynover it around my mouth. I later attempted to eat some noodles that were crushed into very small pieces to avoid getting them wrapped around the bars. It was a success, but something that would usually take me 5 minutes, took me 30 and I only ate half. I have again taken painkillers throughout the day to minimise pain.

Day 3 Sunday 21st

I have woken up pain free but as I gotten up and started moving around my tongue has begun to be very painful. I could feel in particular the front piercing was very painful but not an aching pain more of a sharp pain. I went to the bathroom and looked under my tongue and to my fright I saw that around the front bar was a thick layer of blood I panicked I admedianly thought my tongue had begun leaking out the piercing but I managed to scrape it off. Today it is the most painful it has been so far. I have taken several painkillers and it has begun to easy up. I have also noticed that my tongue has become a brownish almost yellow colour. (I know this is due to over cleaning but better safe than sorry.) My boyfriend also wished to let me know that I had extremely horrible breath and I assume this is because of the fact that I am unable to clean my tongue during brushing what so ever. My speech has remained slurred but I hope will get better over the next few days. I have eaten one entire packet of noodles tonight and I am very proud even though again it took along time and the small pieces got stuck between the balls it was a very successful day.

I have no doubt that my piercing will be very swollen for a few more days but am sure I will be up and eating solids in no time.

My Aftercare

I am currently using Listerine morning and night, after I eat or drink anything besides water and when ever it feels painful, as I have discovered that it helps it.

I am taking painkillers often, as I cannot predict when it is going to be sore.

I have also found that I am beginning to get somewhat of a think saliva covering my tongue and the roof of my mouth, I have found that it is easily fixed with a few cotton buds.

I am happy with my new piercings even though they are very painful, are depriving me of food and making me sound like I have a speech impediment. I wouldn't change anything, as I did know there was a possibility that these two weren't going to be the same as my first (pain free.) I believe piercings are a lot to do with luck. Hopefully if you decide you want a tongue piercing or any piercing for that matter you have a pain free experience.

Thanx.
