My tongue piercing

I had been thinking about getting my tongue pierced for nearly 12 months. Firstly, did I want it enough and secondly when would I have enough time off work, for healing and also with my speech. I had spoken with friends who had a tongue piercing, to find out about their experiences, before I finally made my decision.

My decision made I then had to wait until Christmas as I would have a break from work over the Christmas/New Year period. Boxing day, 26th December dawned and I was a bit nervous. I took my cousin with me for support. I had previously had my ears pierced many years before and also my vch pierced a couple of years ago, so I was not new to it. But for some reason I was nervous about this. I researched on the net and armed with the knowledge, I took the trip up to Flesh Impressions at Broad beach on the Gold Coast, Australia.

Even though it was a public holiday I know they were opening at 10am, and I had to drive 30 alms from home, so I timed my drive to arrive at 10 so I would have no time to wait around and get nervous. Little did I know the piercer had a problem and didn't open till 11am. This gave me lots of time to think about things.

But that was the only problem I had. When she arrived and opened the shop I told her I wanted to get my tongue pierced and she went over the whole thing. I explained I had a problem with work not allowing obvious piercing and suggested using clear acrylic balls on the end of surgical stainless steel bar. I went with that idea. We then moved into the piercing room. She laid out all the instruments, which were in sealed bags, which she would be using. I was asked to swish my mouth out with and alcohol free mouthwash, and she asked me to stick out my tongue, which she dried and then proceeded to mark with a small spot on top and underneath. When that was done I was asked to take a look and see if I felt ok with where it was marked. It looked nice and centered and not too close to the end, so I felt happy with it. I sat back onto the table and was handed a paper cloth to hold, which I asked what it was for and she told me that it was in case I dribbled or bled a little.

She then clamped my tongue and lifted it up and down and moved the clamp about a few times until she was satisfied with the placement and said ok, at which point I closed my eyes. I figured that if I didn't watch I would get through things much better. So I then felt a pressure and tugging sensation which was not bad at all, then I felt her hand working on the top of my tongue. She said something to me which I missed as I was so busy blocking out the whole thing. So I said huh? And she repeated ok you can put your tongue back in now, which surprised me as I thought, it can't be over already cause it was so quick and didn't hurt at all. I didn't dribble and had only the tiniest speck of blood. She then gave me a run down on aftercare and a printed sheet with everything written down. She also advised that when the swelling went down I should return and they would replace the bar with a smaller one. Everything went smoothly and was over and done so quickly, I am still amazed.

Now its day 4 and no problems. I ate soft foods, yogurt etc the first evening. Since then have had most anything else but cut up in very small pieces and chew very slowly. I don't want to bit my tongue or the bar. I did stick my tongue out on the second day when I was looking in the mirror and got the ball underneath my tongue on the wrong side of my teeth, major panic. So I won't do that again. I will remember not to stick my tongue out for 2 weeks as I was told. I also tried sucking through a straw and found its maybe a little early as it irritated things a little. So I will wait awhile before doing that again. If anyone is thinking about a tongue piercing I would recommend it. Was the most painless of the three that I have and I have to say my ears were the worst. I also have to say that if you are on the gold coast and looking for a place to have a piercing done, do go and see Flesh Impressions as they are tops.
