I've wanted a tongue piercing for the past 3 years, but my parents are quite strict and so my piercing escapades had to be ones in which could be hidden. Before I went to Uni I had 2 retired tragus, a retired nipple, a stomach surface piercing which I got done cheaply and had to be removed via A&E, but a successful tongue web (retired), sternum, labret and rook.

I also have a great piercist, who works wonders. He has the talent of squeezing on the clamp hard enough that you don't really feel the needle go through. ANYWAY! On with the show

It was the day after Boxing Day and I was already decided that I would get my tongue pierced before I went back to London. So off I popped, got a bus to Canterbury (UK) and turned up at the studio. I had already enquired about the procedure and as I am going back to Uni in like 6/7 days Markus decided it would be best to do both at the same time. He gave me a disclaimer form, the usual stuff about diabetes, hemophilia etc etc. Whilst I was doing this some gobby cow came in and started arguing the toss about how he'd messed up a lip piercing claiming she was allergic to black line jewelry, except she was wearing some in the other side of her lip... She was asked what she had been cleaning it with, where she replied some sort of antiseptic wipe, which she was told was too strong, but yet she still argued the toss. I think this put Markus in a GREAT mood for doing my piercing as he was pretty ticked off...

The waiting room was quite busy, and he told his apprentice to get stuff ready and the usual stuff for a tongue piercing. At this a lad a few years younger than me told me it didn't hurt too much and he was there for a change down. Despite all this it didn't really calm my nerves, just made it worse!!!

Anyway, off I went to the *back room*. Usually I'm not too nervous about piercing, but I was bricking it! Talking to the apprentice, who was really lovely calmed my nerves a bit. Markus started marking up my tongue, drying it with tissue, dotting my now dry covered with bits of tissue tongue with some purple inky stuff. It seemed to take ages to mark me up, I seemed to have oddly placed veins. But now the clamps were ready!

EEK! It really F*****g hurt! But there was no blood and I was starting to dribble! The clamp went on the other side, and this time I was ready! The needle went through, and I could feel every millimeter of it. I think due to the shock it didn't hurt as much. With 2 canular tubes in my tongue Markus started threading through the jewelry. This hurt nearly as much as the piercing itself! After the first bar went through I felt like I was going to choke on my drool! Ergh! So there I was, Markus holding my tongue with his yukky tasting gloves, my tongue throbbing like a bitch, covered in purple ink, with 1 bar in, dribbling everywhere, with his apprentice watching diligently. The second bar now through I was given back my tongue! Thank God! It felt really strange, 2 lumps of metal through my tongue. I felt fine after, but apparently looked a little pale...

After I got up I took a look in the mirror, and declared "OH! It looks really good! I can talk!" I handed over the £55, thanked Markus and said goodbye. On my way out the lad who had told me it didn't hurt ( the liar) asked to look and was shocked to see 2 shiny balls instead of the usual 1.

I also had work that night, and I work in a Pizza takeaway. I had great fun answering the phones and serving customers who were like ??? at my slurred speech. It didn't hurt too bad at this point and I managed to nibble a tiny bit of pizza, ate some ice cream and half a pot noodle which I had to basically throw down the back of my throat to swallow! I had one woman (who had her tongue pierced) telling me now much it hurts in the morning due to swelling and that you get teeth marks down the side on your tongue. Boy was she right. The next morning my tongue was huge and I felt sick with the pain. Only after a few Ibuprofen and a lot of icy water did it stop hurting. I was starving too, I could eat anything, as my tongue didn't even fit in my mouth!

Today is my 3rd day of pain, and I woke up this morning in so much pain I could have ripped them out! It made my eyes water! I think it was because I went to sleep with my mouth open and my tongue dried out and swelled at the same time! OUCHIES! I have only managed warmish tomato soup, yogurt and pasta chopped into tiny bits so far, so hopefully I'll lose half a stone! I can only hope!

I really like the look of my new piercing, and I can't wait to be able to talk normally and eat! I don't think I would have it done again, and it's just a total pain in the arse. But I'm one of these people who decide to do something, I just do it. So happy piercing!
