Everyone told me not to get my tongue pierced. People swore it would hurt and get infected and it would be the worst experience of my life. But seeing has how I am an adult now, I decided to do it anyway.

We went on a Saturday to this really nice place is Jersey. I had heard great stories about this place called Pleasurable Piercing. When we walked in I was a little nervous but I had done my research on the piercing. The woman behind the counter was really sweet and helped me pick out a bar and explained why it was the one I wanted. I paid and she told me to have a seat. Within ten minutes the piercer came out and called my name. He introduced himself and his attitude calmed my increasingly freaked out nerves. The room was really nice and was spacious enough to have my friend hold my hand. I was really scared and so I asked him a few questions. He explained every detail of the process and didn't mind doing it either.

I felt really comfortable and stuck out my tongue. I closed my eyes and felt only a slight pinch, I hardly felt the needle and it was hollow so he dropped the barbell right in and removed the needle. I couldn't stop playing with it!! It was so cool!! In the car ride home it got increasingly sensitive. Sucking on ice is really helpful. I got carnation breakfast drinks because they were the least exhausting to eat and was filling. Eating was difficult and I would recommend avoiding straws and food or drink that involves "sucking" of any kind. They told me to sleep elevated, but I didn't listen. I woke up at 3am regretting it greatly. I then slept elevated for the following 5 nights and it made a huge difference. I washed with H2OCEAN salt rinse when I got home and went and bought soup (which doesn't work bc hot really hurts!!!!) and biotene, which I was told to buy.

DAY 2:
I woke up with really bad ear pain on the left side so I took Advil, which really helped. A few hours later the ear pain was all gone and my tongue just felt fat and sore. It was hard to eat but my speech wasn't impaired. It was sometimes painful to annunciate, but nothing too bad. I continued to suck ice, which is really helpful. I am using the H2OCEAN in the morning and at night when I brush my teeth and tongue. I use Biotene religiously after every meal and drink.

DAY 3:
Same ear pain again and I got worried so I called Pleasurable. I got to talk to my piercer who assured me there wasn't anything wrong with me and that I should call back in a few days the pain doesn't stop. It was still swollen and hard to move and eat. But I could feel the improvement. My tongue turned a white-ish color no funky color like green or brown. I started diluting the biotene with water, just slightly.

DAY 4:
I woke up with only slight ear pain and it only bothered my a little bit through out the day. Eating is a little better but soft stuff like yogurt is best. I'm still using the same combination of rising and I bought a tongue scraper (oral-b) to help maybe get this white color to go away.

DAY 5:
Next to no ear pain but still drinking breakfast drinks in the morning. Although I managed to eat a bagel which I thought was pretty impressive. It still feels swollen but it hurts less to move around. Aside from what seems like random spurts of pain, the tongue is progressing well. In reality, excessive talking and eating really does hurt it.

DAY 6:
Today I was able to cut up mozzarella sticks and place it between my cheek and gum, I found when the food in easy to contain in your mouth its less painful. I couldn't lift my tongue to move the food around even if I wanted to. You don't realize how much you use your until you pierce it..and can't use it. Getting better still pain wise. The white coloring on my tongue is gone and I am using Biotene only about 2x a day and the H2OCEAN in the morning and night.

DAY 7:
Today has been the best day yet. I can the bottom of the bar in front om my teeth and play with it without experiencing too much pain. Today was a great day and I am totally not regretting this piercing. I keep forgetting to do my rinses, but my tongue feels great after I do it so I'm really trying to stay on top of it.

DAY 8:
I am more or less eating regular food and the movement I'm getting back is wonderful. I am still rinsing in the morning and at night with the salt-water stuff and then at least twice a day with BIOTENE.

Tomorrow will be day 9 and I am not regretting it one bit. I found that it's really important to listen to all the aftercare instructions, like rinsing and sleeping elevated. Rinsing seems like it has to be adjusted to the individual. Diluting biotene seemed to make the white-ish color go away. I was told no "wet" kissing for 4-6 weeks..that seems to be the biggest setback, but it's a great piercing that's cool to show off and easy to hide. I love it and wouldn't go back.
