My name is Larissa and I am 18 years old. I am crazy about piercings and tattoos. Ever since I was little I have wanted to get my tongue pierced. So I decided when I turn 18 I'll get it done. Eight-teen rolls around and I start researching places I could go. I found a place that does both piercings and tattoos, which I was hesitant on going because you should have a person just in that profession. The place is called Sacred Addition and I found out that the lady who does body piercings is an E.M.T and only does piercing. That's good so if some one passes out she can revive them.

So I get a ride there after I decide I want to get pierced there. I fill out some forms and wait and watch some girl get her belly done. (Mines done) My turn comes up and the lady talks to me about the piercing and how I have to clean it and what to avoid the first week or two after: no beer, no hot food/spicy, eat and drink cold things. She suggested eating crushed ice to keep the swelling down. She also said no kissing or oral sex for 6 weeks.

Now comes the good part. She sets the seat that lies down up in the lie down position. (Confused myself there) I sit and watch her take out all of the supplies needed to get the job done. She puts her black gloves on and begins to open the sterilized materials and places them on the metal tray. She breaks out the mouthwash and I have to rinse my mouth. Not once, not twice, but three times and each time I have to spit the mouthwash into a small plastic cup. The last gargle I had to hold for a long time. Made my damn eyes water like crazy. I am then made to stick out my tongue and she sprays some numbing spray on my tongue to help with the "pain". That spray defiantly works, for like 8.9 seconds! Any hoot, I lay down and she comes over and dots my tongue with a marker. I looked in the mirror and liked what I saw so she proceeded. This is the really messed up part. She clamps my tongue with the dot in the middle and I swear she held it for about 5 minutes. It was bad. I kept swallowing because my tongue was out and I was lying down. So the clamp moved forward towards the tip of my tongue instead of being where it was supposed to be. So when she pierced my tongue it didn't land on the dot. I was so mad! Oh and it didn't hurt at all. It hurts the first week it heals. Well that's how it was for me. Not going to lay it really hurts when you try to eat after. I was lucky that mine didn't get swollen. But it's really awkward at first because not only do you have something in your mouth that wasn't there before, it's wicked long. When you are first pierced they use a longer barbell incase of swelling. Believe me the long barbell is your worst enemy. I had a hard time trying to fall asleep because I couldn't get it comfortable in my mouth. I would wake up in the morning with drool down the side of my face. Ha. I had to sleep with my mouth open so it wouldn't dig into the bottom of my mouth.

Now comes the bad part. That night I went out. I got into a car accident. I was only one wearing my seatbelt and what do you know I was " injured" the most. Nothing to bad, just seatbelt marks and a chipped front tooth! Can you guess where I got the chip? That's right, my new piercing. You better believe it swelled a little more after that. I was so upset. Not even about my tooth. I wanted it so bad and I finally got it and less than 6 hours I already messed my smile up more. (Labret pushed gum line down). O well I still love it. It's my favorite piercing so far. All I have to say is make sure you really want it because it really does affect your gums and smile. So listen to people when they warn you, don't be stubborn like me.

Its been about 6 months since I have been pierced and it's fine. There was no infection, and no more mishaps. I still love it! Others do too. Once you get a shorter barbell its all good. So hang in there if you get it done and just want to rip the long one out. Its worth the pain. Well hope I was of help. Pierce on!
