My name is makayla. I have been wanting a tongue ring since I first saw it in the 8th grade ( I am in 11th now).It would be my first piercing besides my ears. Of course my mother has always said no because of the " you will look like a ho" stereotype and she did not want guys to pay me the "extra" attention. Well my 16th bday was on Oct. 19 and I convinced her to let me get it dont and she agreed if I promise not to show anyone in our church.. It got delayed and I just barely got it done yesterday!!!

On the way there I was terrfied and had butterflies in my stomach. I had brought along my best friend Ashley who has had hers for 3 yrs for moral support and to hold my hand lol. She was tryin to comfort me the whole way there telling me it was nothing. My mom was even about to throw up and she was not even gettin it! We arrived at Body Creations and talked to the owner named Jerry. He was really nice and reassured me it was nothing, but of course I did not believe him. Jerry went over the aftercare which I already knew beacuse of the millions of stories I had read on BME My mom signed the paper while me and my bestest friend went to look at jewlery. When it was my turn and they called me in the back.
So Ashley and I followed her into the room. I hopped up onto the doctors bed thing and Ashley stood next to me ready to watch.. I was practically shaking and was thinking about chickening out but I wanted it done for so long and figured I had to go through with it. The piercer looked really young but she had alot of piercings including her tongue do I was feeling alittle better. She told me this was really painful even though it is a thick muscle and the only painful part is when she screwed on the bottom ball. After asking if I was ready, She made me rinse with listerine and marked my tongue with purple dye and a toothpick. Then it was time for the clamps.. I do not see why people think the clamps hurt, they did not hurt at all. She gave me tissues for my drooling and placed a cork under my tongue. I grabbed Ashley's hand and seen the needle coming towards my tongue. I closed my eyes quickly and she told me to close my eyes and take a deep breathe and as I exhaled she stuck the needle through.. It was SO QUICK i mean like 5 seconds top and so painless. All i felt was the needle entering at the top and coming out into the cork at the bottom. She pulled the needle out quickly which fell on the floor and placed the barbell through and attempted to screw da bottom ball on which fell on the floor. She got a new one a played with it trying to screw it on.. Let me tell you that this was really uncomfortable and felt as if your tongue is being pulled out your mouth but not unbearable. She told me that I was done and If I was ok and I said yes and hoped off the bed and thanked her and left. I had not bled a single bit.
I fell inlove with it at first sight. My mom was not disgusted by it at all which I thought she would be, my little brother asked to see and was really happy for me. Afterwards we left and went to McDonalds and I got a huge cup of ice which was hard to suck on but hey. It really helped alotso I would recommend it right afterwards. It swelled some and I was still able to talk but slurred my words a little. We left there and went to Walmart and picked up a few necessities and pudding for me to eat. The pudding was actually more difficult to eat than fries lol surprisingly. The whole time I sipped on ice water and was so proud of myself. My tongue did not bother me much and hardly swelled like I thought it would and have heard from other stories. I rinsed after everything I eat with half BIOTENE and half water, it feels really good and tingly. AND rinsed right before going to bed. Make sure you brush your teeth and your tongue gently.
DAY 2 (today): When I woke up I was surprised to see that my tongue did not hurt at all like other stories I have read and it was bearly even swollen. I ate eggs, bacon, and grits slowly but with no problems!! I have had minimal swellin, no pain, and can talk with barely any slurring. My mom says that you can not tell I even have it unless I open my mouth and show it which she is happy about.I am so glad that my mom is ok with it I thought she would be completely grossed out but she actually asks to see it and said it look good. I asked her if she wanted one and she smiled and said yes but not bad enough to actually go through with it lol.
So yea thats my experience. I guess I lucked out. I can not wait to change the bar into a smaller one because it feels really big already because most of the swelling is gone. It was wierd getting use to but not a heavy feeling more like it is uncomfortable under your tongue. My boyfriend of 1 year and a half likes it and im trying to talk him into getting it done.
