I have always wanted to get my tongue done but I didn't have the guts to do it. Instead, I started off with my navel piercing first and got this baby done when I entered my degree programme. It's like a symbol of freedom and a beginning of a whole new world for me.

I went to the mall on a fine Saturday morning with my best buddy, Ranee, to get it done. She was actually more excited than I was. She looked she was about to pee in her pants when I told her my plan. We grabbed a double cheese burger at McDonalds before going to the piercing parlor, knowing that this would most probably be my last meal for at a week or more.
Finally, we located the small booth set up by the tattoo parlor. A few girls with a lot of piercing were promoting the tattoo parlor and they had flashes of people with their tattoo or piercing smiling happily. After inquiring enough about the piercing and the procedure, I paid for the piercing and I was given a shiny new stainless steel barbell in a tiny package.
It was then my heart started to pump wildly and felt a bit faint. I guess it was the adrenaline n excitement taking control. Ranee was so excited and scared at the same time and kept bugging me, asking whether I'm really sure I want to get this done. One of the girls then led me to the piercing parlor located some distance away from the main building. The weird thing is that the parlor was in a secluded place and it made me feel like I was joining some secret cult.
The parlor was small but it was well lit and was extremely spick and span. The piercer himself was covered with heaps of tattoos, a definite positive sign. I passed the barbell to the lady at the counter and I was asked to wait along with four other people who wanted to get their tattoos done. The piercer then sprayed the clamps, needle and the barbell with disinfectant.
Then he asked me to swish with some mouth wash for thirty seconds. Then he told me to stick my tongue out. After checking for the blood vessels, he proceeded to clamp my tongue. At that moment, Ranee decided that she couldn't take it anymore and turned around. She told me it looked like a horror movie from her place. The clamp hurt a little, but it wasn't as bad as the piercing itself. Then he stuck the needle through my tongue, bottom up. It hurt like hell! I could actually feel the needle going through layer by layer, bit by bit, until he nearly reached the top. Then the needle could not pierce through!
He shoved the needle through anyway and I felt light headed. He quickly put in the barbell and removed the clamp. Then he asked me to pull in my tongue. I lifted my tongue carefully into my mouth. Now it just burned and it felt heavy. Then he asked me to stick out my tongue again and screwed on the ball. It just felt like a pinch but the pain didn't matter to me anymore. I was just so excited about the piercing. Ranee wanted to see it and I immediately stuck my tongue out. She then cringed and turned around. I took a peek at mirror and saw what was wrong. I was bleeding.
The piecer said that its just a minor bleeding and will stop soon. He then told me the aftercare instructions which include no oral sex, no wet kissing, no alcohol and no smoking for a week. He also added that I could get the barbell changed after a week.
Ranee and I quickly ran to the nearest Secret Recipe corner and got ourselves ice blends. I needed one to stop the bleeding and to reduce the pain. She needed one as she was about to faint at the sight of the piercing!Well, after that I was showing off my piercing to all of my friends. As I lived in a hostel, the news spread really quick and I was soon a star of the campus. I was surely on cloud 9 by then. The aftercare was really simple. You must always keep the oral cavity clean by swishing with mouthwash twice daily and if possible, brush teeth after each meal. Sucking on ice for a few days really helps to reduce the swelling. Eating soft food like porridge, mash potatoes and jellies for a few days really help as well.
So what else can I say? I'm really pleased with my piercing and I really think it is worth the pain. If you feel like getting a tongue piercing done, I'd say just go for it!
