I just got my tongue pierced 3 days ago. I've always wanted a tongue ring ever since 9th grade, I'm a sophomore in college now. I didn't get it back then because it was the new thing to do and I didn't want to copy people.

Well the day finally came and it turned out that her orthodontist only took off her top braces and made her keep her braces for about 6 more months. My friend couldn't get her tongue pierced anymore and during that time, I had to take my wisdoms out and I didn't want to get a tongue ring just yet because I didn't want my dentist to see my ring. There goes our plans of getting pierced. Everytime we make a date to get it pierced, something would come up.
Well, on Sunday, we finally got the piercings we wanted and there was no planning involved. It was a spontaneous thing. Early that day, we were at a funeral and had to get gas after the funeral since the tank was completely empty. Down the street was Bulldogs, a piercing and tatoo shop. I wasn't really serious but I asked my friend if she wanted to get a piercing and somehow we ended up at Bulldogs after we were done getting gas.
At first I wasn't really nervous because I've always wanted to get my tongue pierced and I thought it couldn't be that bad. But waiting for the piercer to come and talking to my friends made me nervous. They were nervous and kept talking about it. The price of the piercing was supposed to be $45 without the jewelry but they had a special, 3 piercings for $99, and since there were 3 of us, my friend and I convinced our other friend to get a piercing. I got my tongue, one got a monroe and the other got her cartiledge.
The piercer finally got to the shop but we had to wait for the girl that got there before us. She got an industrial and it turned out nice. I plan on getting that next. After he was done witht the girl, I was next. I was the first out of my friends because I just wanted to get it done with so I can watch my friends get theirs pierced. So I went into the room and he asked me if I had any questions. I just asked about swelling and stuff. I knew that whatever questions I had can be found online so I wasn't too worried and I can always call him. I kind of forgot what came first, the listerine or the dot on my tongue. It took him a while to make a mark on my tongue since my tongue is small. Also, since the webbing underneath my tongue was closer to the tip of my tongue (it wasn't as far back to the back of the mouth like most people), it was hard to decide where to pierce me. I didn't want my ring to be visible when I talk and I wanted to be centered since I'm anal, I want things to be perfect. It's hard to keep your tongue out of so long. My mouth and tongue started to shake and my friend and the piercer thought I was really nervous.
So, my piercer is all done with his marking and he opened the clamps. I read somewhere that the clamps hurt when they put it on. Not really. I was expecting some pain but nothing. Finally, I saw him pick up the needle and I felt a sharp pain on tongue. He told me to inhale and he SLOWLY pushed the needle through my tongue. I don't know why he went so slowly but I think it's because of my webbing, he had to pierce it at an angle. I think the most painful part was when he put in the bar. OUCH! Since the bar was bigger than the hole, he kinda had to push it through. I felt a tear in my eye. After he screwed in my bar, he asked me if I was ok, if I was going to faint. I was fine. I walked out of the room and my other 2 friends were next.
I can't believe I actually got it done. I got lucky because my tongue didn't swell up. I started eating a few hours after because I was at my bf's sister's party. It was hard because my tongue kinda hurt. I just ripped the food into pieces and pushed it to the back of my mouth. Once in a while, I thought that my ball came off because I would feel it on my teeth. Sometimes I would forget and tried to licked the side of my lips. OUUCH! don't do that. It hurts. Today is the 3rd day and my mouth feels heavy. By the 2nd day, I felt like I had lock jaw because my jaw felt so heavy. It's probably because I started eating so soon. My throat started to hurt too. I think I didn't chew my food enough and swallowed big pieces of food.
I brush my teeth after every time I ate and rinsed with salt water. Make sure to drink lots of water. I always felt cleaner whenever I drank water since my mouth was so dry it made my mouth feel dirty.
That was my experience with tongue piercing. Hope yours went as well as mine and you were able to go with your best friends!
