I had my tongue pierced before, when I was younger without parent consent because I thought it was the greatest thing you could pierce. After my mom told me it would kill me and was giving me brain tumors, I took it out. Only because I started to get chronic head aches. Funny how when I took it out, the head aches disappeared? Mind over matter, very true with this situation. I decided I'd wait and hopefully get it done later in life.

I got a huge talk about "how I was the right age and I could make my own choices, etc.. etc.." so I thought, why not! I'll get in done at the end of school after exam's as a present to myself.
My parent's reminded me of the risks.. I reminded them I already knew. We came to an understanding and soon enough I found myself getting ready to go get it done.
I got it pierced the first time when I was about 14, just turning 15. I got it done when I was 16 turning 17 (I'm 17 years old now.) I went to Merchant Maries in dartmouth, because It's only 30 dollars to get pierced up and I wanted it cheap, but done well. It was all fine with me! I got 30 dollars out of the bank and headed down with my friend at my side. I paid the man at the desk, he said it would be a tiny bit of a wait, so we decided to just sit down and wait. I didn't really care how long I waited for, I just wanted my tongue stud back where it belonged! We waited around for about 15 minutes, I was so nervous and excited. I was shaking because I wanted to get it over with so bad. I found the longer I waited the more nervous I got but it was so worth it in the end.
Since I had had it done before, I knew what I needed to do. She did the usual, handed me a cup of mouth wash and told me where the washroom was. I washed out my mouth and she directed me to a chair in a tiny space with mirrors, needles, tattoo guns and all sorts of things. I sat down, shaking as she told me what was going to happen. She told me to stick out my tongue as far as I could so she would know where to pierce me. She picked up a new pen and pointed the spot where she would pierce me. She pressed on the clamp, which hardly hurts and told me to take 3 deep breaths. On the third she would pierce me. She told me just to relax and It wouldn't take long. The needle was full of Vaseline so it would slide through, I stared cross eyed at it as she pierced me.
By this time I was drooling down my chin and about to laugh from nervousness. It was a bit of a sharp pain but it was bearable. The pain wasn't all too much but it hurt so much more the second time around only because she was piercing over the old piercing. Finally, she stuck in the barbell. She pierced me with a 16 gage and told me I could go bigger or smaller with the barbell in time. She mentioned It would be hard to talk at first and I should eat and drink solid foods as soon as possible so the swelling wouldn't be bad.
I walked out with my tongue stud back! I was so happy and so excited. It was a bit hard to talk at first, spitting wasn't even happening and I had a bit of a slur only because at the time I had a retainer. The talking part was no problem after awhile.
It took about a month to heal and then I changed the barbell to a shorted one, so I could take a little better. It was a bit tighter feeling only because I wasn't use to it. It only hurt for the first 3 days the first time. I knew how to take care of it, but I kind of abused it the second time. I kept playing with it constantly because I was so use to doing it the second time. One of my friends pointed out to me my tongue was bleeding. A lot. So I went to the bathroom and put some toilet paper on it to stop the bleeding. 30 minutes later it finally stopped. It was sore and swelling pretty bad but I didn't want to take it out! So I left it where it was and ate some ice to help the swelling, taking Tylenol all the time too.
It was fine after about a week. I just reminded myself not to play with it as much. Just to let it heal and do its own thing.
My tongue piercing is probably my favorite piercing. I love it to death! It's perfectly straight and gives me something to play with when I'm bored. I recommended anyone that wants it done get it. Do a little research like any piercing because there are risks with getting it done, but even so, It's a great piercing to have. I love it!
