Hi all, I thought I'd be helpful and write a story about my experience because I know I used these a lot when I was considering getting my tongue pierced! I was going to wait a week because before I got mine done I was more interested what happened after the first day, when people started eating etc. but on day three I feel like this new piece of metal has been in my mouth for years!

I started thinking about getting this piercing about a month ago, I was never really bothered about it but one day I saw it and something just clicked, I wanted it ever since! I had to wait bout a month as I didn't have any money and i've just started work in a call centre so I had to time it with training and make sure I did it when I wasn't taking calls.

Bout a week before I was going to get it done I rang around a few place to check procedures so I could decide where to go. I asked what bars they used, how much it would cost and if they would freeze it. Eventually I chose bodycraft and they would still be open after work on payday which was great.

So the day finally came and I was so excited it was all I was talking about it all day. After work I met up with two friends and we drove into city centre to the tattoo parlour. When I got there the piercer had already set up as I had rung beforehand I really don't like needles so I didn't look at anything. I sat on a table while the piercer explained what she was going to do and the aftercare instructions. All she basically said was to use a non alcoholic based mouthwash three times a day for two weeks. The bar she was going to put in was a large ptfe one with metal balls on. If in a week, the swelling had gone down so much it wasn't comfortable, she would trim it for me and after three weeks I could go back for a smaller one. Then she told me about the numbing solution she would use and sprayed it in my mouth. I wasn't allowed to swallow it I just had to keep it on my tongue and when my mouth stopped tingling I should spit (or dribble as it turned out) it all out. The she put the clamps on; as soon as these went on I closed my eyes and didn't see anything else. I did feel the needle go through she did it quite slowly and I have to say I found it painful but it was bearable I didn't flinch or anything. Then I hopped off the table and that was it!

Afterwards I went and had a glass of water at the pub with my friends, it was difficult at first but I got used to it after a bit. The piercer had also told me that it was good to drink plenty of water as keeping my tongue hydrated would be better for it. I also took some ibuprofen straight away to hep with the swelling. After that I went to the supermarket in anticipation of not being able to eat anything for the next week, I bought lots of ice and smoothies and a blender. When I got home my boyfriend wanted a takeaway so I ordered a foo yung. It took ages to eat it and I did catch my bar a few times but I would defiantly recommend eating straight away. I took some more ibuprofen and a glass of water to bed with me. It was quite painful when I woke up but my tongue had barely swollen at all.

Since then i've been out for a meal and imp able to eat everything I normally do and its only day three, I don't even think my tongue has swollen at all! Everyone keeps telling me how lucky I am they've never seen anyone heal so quickly I could talk straight away!

Now the tongue bar just feels normal. As I said I havnt noticed any swelling so I cant tell if it has gone down at all but my mouth is used to the balls being in there and im not as conscious trying to eat now (before I was really careful not to chew on the balls and hurt myself so it took me ages) and I havnt felt any pain today whatsoever yay!

I would defiantly recommend the piercing; it looks v attractive I'm always getting compliments on it. My main advice would be to use a good mouthwash. I use oraldene every time I eat and I feel much better after it, I use ibuprofen a lot too and drink lots of water!

That's about it feel free to email me if you have any questions
