The thing is I haven't actually done it yet. This experience is a pre-experience experience (oh, the repetition).
I've been reading quite a few stories on IAM. I've always been afraid of the pain of tongue piercings, because all I can think about is how the tongue is a muscle. And it contracts with pain, so if I contract my tongue when it's being pierced... I don't want a split tongue, thank you very much. I'm kind of afraid of the pain but I know that's not gonna stop me. After all, I was afraid of the pain of a nipple piercing and I survived (and, honestly, it didn't hurt much either). I know there will be pain in the beginning but it will end. None of my piercings hurt anymore :) So I know it's worth it.
So, now that I'm talking about pain. I've heard many people say how much this piercing hurts. Some people say it's unbelievably painful. And others say it's one of the most painless piercings they've got. Ok, that's just like any other piercing, it really depends on the person. So, to be honest, I don't know what I'm expecting. I might just expect that piercing-pain I usually get. That's what I call the pain during a piercing procedure (amazingly enough), when you know a needle is gonna go through your skin/cartilage/muscle and you know you're gonna feel that pain that comes along with the beauty, and you know (or should) that it's worth it. No pain, no gain :P
OK. Tomorrow I'm going to visit the studio and I'll get my piercing done in two days time!
======Day -1======
After a few minor complications I went to the piercing studio (King Seven Tattoo). I talked to the guy at the front and told him I want to get my piercing done tomorrow, and asked various questions I knew the answer to, but wanted to make sure I was right. I asked him the price, if I have to come back and get a smaller barbell later, if I have to schedule a time or just pop in. He was really nice, I hope he's the one to pierce me :D
So, tomorrow is the big day. I'm taking two allies, one for taking pictures and the other one to see me suffer. They're my bonding buddies, and they were with me when I got my nip done too :D I really hope this time my pictures come out ok and not blurred like before.
A little over twelve hours to go!
======D Day======
Classes finished at lunchtime today. I wasn't hungry so I didn't eat, but I regretted that tremendously later, as I can't eat solids for 3 days. When I got to the studio I filled in the form while the piercer prepped up (yes, it was the same guy from yesterday, Azambuja :D And I found out he has an IAM account too, /?wazambuja).
My pals and me went into the little sterile room. I sat on the dentist like chair and wasn't nervous AT ALL. I was actually surprised, I've always felt nervous when I got a piercing, but not this time and I don't really know why. He asked me to put my tongue out and passed some xylocaine on it. It went immediately numb (and so did my lips and roof of mouth). He then dried it up and checked under my tongue for the veins. He asked me to really put my tongue out, but it's too small! I tried my best and he placed the dot. My friend was taking pictures while my other friend was holding my foot in desperation. Azambuja gave me some absorbing kitchen paper to hold if I end up drooling, but thankfully I didn't, I never do :D
Ok, so the good part is coming. He got the clamp and fastened it on my tongue. He opened up the needle and up my tongue it went. To be honest, it hardly hurt. I'm not trying to sound strong or anything, but it really hurt very little, MUCH less than I would ever imagine. So, the needle in my mouth, the pictures being taken and the very girly man squeezing on my foot. Jewelry goes in, needle goes out. Tada! It looked so beautiful!
As I got home I got some ice cream and put some ice on my tongue, it REALLY helped. And right after that I washed it with dilute Listerine. Up to now nothing wrong with it. Let's just see if it swells tomorrow.
Aftercare procedure:
~ No eating solids for 3 days
~ Putting ice and cold water on tongue for 3 days
~ No drinking, smoking, kissing, performing oral sex or eating spicy or acidic foods for 10 days
~ After ingesting anything other than water, clean with 50% Listerine solution
~ Return after 10 days to see how it's doing and change the jewelry
======Day 2======
My tongue swelled up a little today, but only in front. It actually looks a little bruised when you look closely at it. At lunchtime I asked my friend to get me some soup but he thought I meant cup noodles. So I had to try and eat the cup noodles. It was quite strange eating with the piercing, but it didn't hurt much (yesterday I had tried eating a thin piece of cheese, and GOD was that a bad idea) except when I bit down on it. Thank God I was chewing slowly.
My tongue looks a little white on top. I hope it doesn't get whiter, it'll look gross ;/
======Day 4======
The swelling is going down (so is the pain when I play with the piercing) and the jewelry already feels too big. The bruising on my tongue has faded away but it's still bruised on the sides in front of the piercing. My tongue is almost back to its normal color :D
Yesterday I had to travel and I ate many times, it was a pain to always have to go to the bathroom and wash my mouth. But I went anyway; I want my tongue to be as healthy as possible.
======Day 7======
It's been a week since I've gotten my piercing done :D The swelling has gone down and the barbell is way too big now; I always bite down on it while I eat and that hurts my teeth. In 3 days I'm getting it checked and changing the barbell. I noticed my piercing is a little crooked too, but if it doesn't harm me, I don't care. And it doesn't look like it's gonna harm me.
======Day 10======
Today I went to the studio to get my barbell changed. Azambuja put in a 14 mm barbell (a little bigger that ½'') but it still felt a bit big, so he stuck in a 12 mm barbell (a little smaller than ½''). It felt perfect. Now my piercing doesn't feel like a piece of jewelry stuck through my tongue anymore, it feels like a part of my tongue. And the little while that I had my jewelry out of my tongue felt so strange. It actually felt like part of my tongue wasn't in there. I'm already used to my new baby! :P
======Day 20======
There was some tonguey tissue growing inside the whole so I cut it off. It grew back and I cut it again (it looks weird, kind of like pus). It never grew back and nothing bad
happened.
======Day 30======
One month has passed and my tongue is perfect :D I try not to play around with my piercing much, but it's inevitable. It doesn't hurt, I hardly ever bite it and there is no tonguey tissue growing on it.
