My name is Katlyn and I am a sophomore in a local k-12 school. I moved from a big city to a very small town. I take many advanced courses especially math and sciences. I have two classes on the sophomore level and everything else is with the juniors or seniors. Everyone including teachers think my navel piercing and nine earrings are just something that happened without me knowing and I'll get rid of them when I notice that they are there. While I was really looking forward to a tongue piercing and had mentioned it to some of my friends.

My mother finally allowed me to get my tongue pierced as a reward for getting a ninety-eight, one hundred with the curve, on my calculus test. We were going to have Ms. Sara's, my mother's co-worker, husband D.J. do it on a Friday night. He owns a shop in Nashville and had done my navel and two ear piercing before.

When I went to get it done my mother and older sister, Aiyana went with me. We got there after hours so we could eat with Ms. Sara and D.J. After pizza D.J had me brush my teeth and use a lot of mouthwash. While I was doing this he was showing my mother all of the tools he would be using.

I came out of the bathroom and he told me to sit in the big official piercing chair, about this time I was really starting to worry so my mother took one hand while Aiyana took the other then they both started teasing me about how bad I wanted this and that now I was going to freak out at the last minute. He told me that he was going to count to three then stick the needle in, I would not feel a thing. Thankfully while I was mentally bracing for a whole lot of pain right after the number three he did it on two so I was amazed to not really fell anything, yeah there was a little tug but not much more.

Next thing I knew he was putting the barbell in and asked me to wash my mouth out again. He handed me a list of after-car instructions and told me to stop by in about two to three weeks and he would give me a shorter barbell. By this time I was jumping all over the place telling everyone, yes all four of them, that I had just got my tongue pierced. Of course they were all there for it so all they did was laugh at me.

We got home and I woke my step-dad up just to show him, after he realized that yes I was stupid enough to stick my tongue out at him and yes I did have a piece of metal shoved through it he looked at me and said " Were going to talk about this whenever I wake up just wait until your mother sees." I then told him that my mom was the one that took me to get it done and no, I did not bribe her into doing it. He just rolled over and went back to sleep. The next morning all of my little sisters wanted to see then they yelled when my step-dad told them that I was only showing them because I wanted I to stick my tongue out at them.

About this time it really started to hurt so my mom made me clean it again and suck on a lot of ice chip. I was cleaning then eating ice the cleaning all weekend long but come Monday morning I was ready to go to school and show all of my friends. Sadly I got to school late and had to rush to first period.

First period happens to be calculus and my teacher just happens to think that only bad girls had piercing and completely over looking all of my others thought I was a really good girl. Knowing this I managed to keep my mouth shut for most of the class, then she asked me to answer a message on the over-head. While I was answering a question one of the girls asked a boy kept staring at my mouth and I did not even notice until he said

"Hey Katie when did you get that done?"

Then everyone had to start asking questions and the teacher got up and told me to open my mouth. After shaking my head a few times she threatened my grade and I opened right up. While the short version would be I spend fifteen minutes getting lectured on good grade, appropriate attire for future medical students, sluts, the chances of looking like a slut, so on and so forth. The worst part was when she looked at me and said that I used to be the smart one but now she really doubted it.

That hurt more than the piercing but I am not going to get rid of it just because of her. So now I hate my old favorite class but I totally love the piercing even if it does take a lot to remember to use mouthwash a lot.
