I've been wanting to get my tongue pierced for the longest time. And finally my day had arrived to get it.

Ever since I saw my sister with her tongue piercing, it made me want to get one so bad! But I was 13 at the time, and my parents had always said no. I'm now 17, and it was a piercing I told my friend I would get before I turned 18, which would be in March.

I told my mom I really wanted to get it done. She said she would think about it. So when I got home from school, she told me that she called my sister to book an appointment for me to get my tongue pierced. I was so excited..but at the same time very nervous. It was set. My appointment would be the following Friday at 2pm. And it was a Monday at the time.

I couldn't pay attention much to my school studies, I was always thinking about the piercing I was going to be getting. Almost every girl in my school had theirs done, but I didn't want it because it was a little "trend". I wanted it longer then they did.

Then it was Friday. I didn't have to go to school that day, so my parents and I traveled to the city, and my dad had no idea what kind of appointment I had. That made me kind of upset, because if he found out he would turn the van around and we'd go straight home. We pulled in front of the tattoo and piercing place, my mom told my dad to wait in the van with the dog, and that we wouldn't be too long.

Mom and I walked in, and she told the lady that we had an appointment to get my tongue pierced. She checked her book, and nodded. Then she told us to fill out a consent form, my mom wanted to get her lip pierced so she was asked to fill one out too, and she gave us little blue booties to put on our feet because we weren't wearing any socks. I was very nervous, everytime I took the clip board with the consent form back to the lady, she had to continuously tell me that I had missed out a few questions. She laughed and then finally she helped me fill out the form.

Then my piercer came to greet me, and told me that she needed to get everything ready first, and that I should just take a seat. I looked at different tattoo designs on the walls, and the variety of jewelery they had. Then my piercer, Pat, came back out and told me to follow her to the back. As I was following her, I glimpsed into the other cubicle room and saw a guy getting tattoo'd. It gave me a rush to get one.

As I entered the room, Pat had a little cup of Ora-B mouthwash and told me to rinse for 1 minute. While I was rinsing, she told me what I needed to expect over the next week or two, and how it would be a painless piercing. Hearing her talk about it made me more nervous. Pat told me to spit and take a seat that looked like a small dentists chair. She then told me to sit up straight, and she put a bib around my neck. I stuck out my tongue so that she could dry it off and mark it. She didn't show me, but I trusted her because she seemed so friendly. Then she positioned the clamp on my tongue. For me, they were extremely uncomfortable. My tongue is very short, so it was hard to keep it stuck out, and she couldn't pierce it very far back.

Then I felt it. I felt the needle going through my tongue, but it didn't even hurt! I mean yeah I felt a tingly pinch feeling, but it was nothing. She told me to breath in then breath out when she put the needle through, then to breath out again for when she had to put the barbell in. She put the ball on, and I put my tongue back in my mouth. It felt so wierd. I had to stick my tongue back out so she could tighten the ball. Pat gave me a pamphlet and explained the after care.

I walked back to where my mom was and showed her. She couldn't believe I actually went through with it. I was so happy. Then it was her turn to get her piercing, so I stayed and waited, and read over the pamphlet. In no time she was on her way out, and she had a new piercing. We paid before we got our piercings, and it was well over $100 all together, including the spray my mom had to buy for her lip.

When we finally left the shop, we went back to the van and she told my dad about her piercing..then she told him about mine. He wasn't too happy at first, but then he came to an agreement with it. He took us to 7-Eleven to get slurpees, and that felt so good on my tongue.

It's been 6 days since I got it done. It still hurts when I move it around, but I guess that's expected. I swish my mouth with Oral-B mouthwash, and when I brush my teeth I gently scrub my piercing to clean it out.

It was very challenging to eat the first few days, but once I got used to it, eating has become much more easier. Although it does take quite some time to finish each meal. I bought some new barbells for when it's time to change to a smaller size.

I'm very happy I went through with this. I've wanted it done so long. And now I got it. Now I think it is time for a tattoo!
