Body piercings have always intrigued me. I love the look of piercings and ever since I got my first piercings in my lobes I have felt the need to have more. My parents, however, do not share my love of piercings. They let me get my lobes pierced, but that was it. Over time, I added a few more holes in my ears, and I also got my conch done. Eventually, though, my parents made me take all but my first lobe piercing out.
At A Glance Author ivy Contact ivy@bme.anon When A month ago While I was still mourning over the loss of my beloved conch piercing, I kept looking on piercing and body mod websites, which only depressed me further. One day, when I was browsing around the Internet, wallowing in self-pity, I came across BME. Looking at the pictures and stories on the site just made me want a piercing more, but I knew that there was no way I could get away with piercing myself...until I came across the tongue web piercing. It was cool and unique and I was pretty confident that I could pierce it myself.
After little consideration, I decided to go for it. I got out an old brooch my mom had and took it apart so only the needle was left. I chose to use this as my instrument for piercing. Then I got my lighter and some piercing lotion I had got at a clinic. It was meant for ear piercing, but I figured that as long as it somewhat disinfected the needle, it would work. I went into my room and got all of my materials together. I then put the lighter under the needle and burned it until I was satisfied. I wasn't sure if this would do anything, but I heard that some people burnt their needles to get them clean. Next, I cleaned the needle with a towel that I had put the piercing lotion on. At that time, I was well aware that there was a difference between "cleaning" and "sterilizing", but I figured that the needle was safer now than before.
I went in front of my mirror and pulled down my lower lip. About then it came to me that the actual piercing process may be harder than I thought. I attempted to just push the needle through, but I kept moving my tongue so that didn't work well. Then, I used my left hand to hold my tongue web and pierced it with my right. It hurt a little bit, but not much. I was one happy camper. All I needed to do now was to put in a barbell. I got a circular barbell that I had used for my conch piercing and put it in. It was a bit big and when I closed my mouth it was pretty uncomfortable. I looked around my room to find something else, and after a few minutes of searching I found a small captive bead ring and put it in the hole. This hurt more than the actual piercing process because the ring was 16 gauge and the hole...was not.
As soon as I had the proper jewelry in, I was content. Unlike everyone else I knew, I now had a tongue web piercing. The next day, I showed it to most everyone I saw (except my parents). Most of them were either fascinated or appalled and in some cases, both. My self-confidence was through the roof. When I came home that night, I looked at my piercing and realized that it was swollen. I freaked out a little and was worried that I would have to take it out. So, then, I looked up aftercare for tongue web piercings. I found out that swelling was normal and that I had to brush it daily. So, I started to brush my piercing constantly and occasionally swish sea salt water to help it heal.
The swelling went down in a few days, and it healed just fine. I now am the proud owner of a tongue web piercing. It has brought me great joy. If you want to get it done, I highly suggest it; however going to a professional would be much wiser than what I did. It is a pretty low maintenance piercing once the healing process is finished. It looks great but can be hidden if needed. Not to mention, playing with it with your tongue is actually quite amusing. The only real downside that I've noticed is getting food stuck in it (which is a rare occurrence). Also, if you get this piercing, I strongly urge you to watch out for ice cubes. Although they greatly help the healing process and reduce swelling, if you get an ice cube stuck in a hoop, it is EXTREMELY COLD (I can't stress that enough).
All and all, if you really want this piercing – get it, but please, go to a professional.
