I had wanted this piercing done for ages, since I was in school. I couldn't wait to see two sparkling little balls in my mouth!

The main feller who does the piercings is called Carl. He's been piercing scousers across Liverpool for over 12 years now. There's also Shirley, his wife. She can do piercings as well but gets funny legs when the adrenaline hits so she'd prefer to let Carl do the dirty work.
I've been here before to get my double navel. I went into the studio; made my appointment and I couldn't wait! It was Wednesday, the day of my piercing. I brought a friend from college who had her tongue done, I bit of moral support shall we say. I arrived at the studio and I signed all the consent forms then Shirley asked me to choose what jewellery I would like to have. I only had a choice of two different bars, but I didn't mind because I'd never seen or heard of P.M.F.K jewellery before.
It's a flexible medical plastic that is really good with fresh piercings because there is less irritation as there may be with other materials like titanium or surgical steel. Shirley was really helpful in explaining all this to me and she said that it helps speed up the healing to because there's less irritation. It can come in all different colours and can be cut to whatever size with just a pair of scissors!
Whilst she explained about the jewellery etc. this gave Carl time to set up. He called me in and I sat on the bed/table. He talked me through the procedure and he was surprised at how relaxed I was! I was surprised at how relaxed I was as well! Anyway he asked me to open my mouth and stick me tongue out so he could mark were the piercing was going to be with this purple stuff. I think its called gentian violet and it helps the artist to see were they are piercing and helps keep the piercing clean afterwards.
After checking it was in the right place he put the clamps on my tongue, now a lot of people thing these are big horrible clamps that have spikes and all kinds but they are harmless. The 1's Carl used didn't hurt a bit. Clamps are used to guide the needle into the right part, all I could feel was the pressure no pain. At this point I was feeling a bit nervous but it was excited nervous I had rushes of adrenaline pumping through my body! I couldn't believe that I was finally getting it done!
As Carl was talking away with his very calming voice he just said, " there you go, it's all done" I was shocked. All I felt was like a little pinch underneath but I wasn't expecting it to hurt so little! I imagined it to be a lot more painful than it was! When you accidentally bite your tongue or something, it bloody kills! I thought it was going to be much worse but yet I was still quite calm!
He showed me the mirror and it was love at 1st sight. It did bleed a little but not loads. He told me that if it bleeds or gets puss coming out just clean with a cotton bud. I was then given aftercare instructions and info about swelling and that. I paid and thanked him and said my goodbyes. It felt so weird but really good at the same time. I was scared to talk encase I knocked it but it was ok.
There was a little pain afterward when I left. It was underneath and it was like a stinging pain but was bad at all. One thing I did do was when my friend asked me could she see it afterwards; I just poked my tongue straight out my mouth but only to catch the ball underneath on my lower teeth. This really hurt a bit; it was stinging for about 5 seconds. Cause I'd only just got it done I wasn't used to it being there so I learnt the hard way with that 1.
My main concern was the swelling part of it but it was bad at all. It swelled a bit by the night but nothing excessive where I couldn't breath or anything! You hear a lot of tales about tongue piercings and the swelling but it is different with each person. I was told to drink plenty of water and to take ibuprofen cause that helps reduce swelling.
The day after when I woke up, my tongue was a lot more swollen than the night before. It does say this in the aftercare to expect it and not to worry. The reason of the extra swelling was because while your sleeping your body dehydrates, causing the additional swelling. This usually fades after an hour or two after waking up. My tongue was a little swollen for about 3 days and it would go a bit bigger when I woke up for about 3 months during the healing.
I've had it done now for nearly 2 yrs and I think its boss. I no it's a fairly common piercing as is the navel and that but it is gorgeous. In my opinion I think piercings are addictive and I would recommend to anybody who is thinking about getting pierced. It's a new experience and its safe if you find a good piercer with a clean studio. My advice is don't just go to the cheapest or the closest one to you, have a good look around and ask if you can see their autoclave. That is 1 sign that they are clean, usually if u ask to see the studio and you kind of feel like you're in a hospital or something that's a good sign.
