Ok. So. I've been very into the whole piercing phase since about grade 7. I've been completely addicted ever since I've seen my brother's girlfriend, who's had piercings including snakebites, medusa, labret, nape, stretched lobes, etc. I was hooked, and I knew I just had to do something about it.
At A Glance Author ashley Contact gecko_is_alive@hotmail.com When Six months ago Artist me Studio home At first, I bought a little package of 16g barbells from a little piercing booth at the mall, and since I bought that I've wanted my navel pierced, but that's another story. Last summer, in August, I was bored one day, and decided to pierce my tongue web.
After going on for months poking around my body, reading experiences and looking at pictures, I knew this piercing would be easy to hide, since my parents are strictly against body mods ( well, who's parents aren't! ) and it was discreet and cute. So I decided to go for it.
Since it was a Friday, and I was going out to camp for a week on the Monday, I figured now would be the best time. No is the time I will stress the whole 'don't-do-piercings-yourself-because-you'll-regret-it-sooner-or-later-probably-sooner' thing. Seeing as obviously I couldn't go out and buy some piercing needles, I decided to use a sewing needle, which I measured to the jewelry I was going to use. The sizing seemed about right, so I went ahead, cleaned all my supplies and the bathroom counter, and went along with it.
Now, the actual piercing didn't hurt a bit. The needle just sort of popped through, and I pulled it through all the way, took it out, and tried to put the jewelry in. It didn't fit, so I was sad. I probably re-pierced my tongue web about 4 times before I gave up, took a little 14g curved taper I had, which, might I add, had a very sharp end on it. So I popped that baby right though, and fed the jewelry in after it.
You head all the people say that getting the little ball on the other side is horrible, and I'll tell you it is quite difficult. After trying for a couple minutes, I take a different tighter glove, so I would have better contact with the ball and bar, and I screwed the bead on surprisingly easily. I was ecstatic! It looked so cute, and it felt awesome to have this little secret piercing in my mouth.
It was kinda weird to eat, since the little bar was knocking around a bit, but it was all right. I didn't get any swelling, and it healed perfectly. I went to camp and people kept wanting to look at it, since they've never seen the piercing before. It was amusing.
So, I went for weeks spraying my new fancy piercing with some H2Ocean spray, which I definitely recommend, and it was healing very well, and I never had any problems with it. Until I because so obsessed with it I've been playing with it non stop.
Since I kept playing with the little balls, over time the piercing stretched, and soon the bar was falling out by itself. I could fit an 8g taper in there! Still hiding the piercing from my parents 2 months later, during meals I had to go to the bathroom to take it out so they wouldn't see. Luckily, they never found out. Then fast forward to a month later, when I was getting really sick of having to spit out the little bar every day and being scared I would swallow it, I went with my friend and we bought 3 more barbells, still 16g but much bigger balls. So we go to the bathroom and put the little sucker in. It still felt kinda weird to have the balls so much bigger, but in the matter of a couple hours it felt normal again. However, the new jewelry must not have been cleaned well, since I've noticed that I've had irritation and the jewelry was actually migrating and rejecting itself! So one day I just get fed up and lift up my tongue to take it out, and since the skin in front of the piercing was literally a hairs' thickness by now, the little bit of skin just sort of snapped, and that was it for my cute little piercing.
Now, go to about a week later, I was starting to miss my piercing, so that's when I decide to pierce it, yet again! So I set up the bathroom, again, and proceed to take an even bigger needle and pierced it farther back, so I don't risk getting it rejected again. I pull the needle and jewelry though again easily, but since the piercing was so much farther back this time, the little ball was still slightly more difficult to put on, but I still managed after a couple minutes.
I finished, and for the next 2 weeks, every day, twice a day I would spray my piercing with H2Ocean, and now, 7 months since I've first had my cute little tongue web pierced, my parents still don't know, neither does my brother... Which he probably should know, since he's cool about the whole piercing thing, and since he's taking me to get my septum done soon ( heh, more hiding stuff from my parents! ).
I hope this gave you some information about the self piercing stuff, and hopefully, if you do decide to go on with piercings yourself, make sure you do know what you're doing, and care for it well, and hopefully it will go as well as mine did. This piercing is easy to maintain, and unlike other people, I've never experienced plaque buildup or swelling, so it all turned out well.
Good luck!
