I have had my first tongue piercing 4 years ago. Piercing in Munich at Pyewacket (I also did my PA there – but that's another story). Very much an unproblematic piercing for me. Healed quickly and no problems with teeth and gum! It became quickly part of myself. I guess almost everybody would agree that after some time you don't notice it anymore and you become one with it. I must say though that once I take it out, I miss it and I could not imagine life with out it (neither could my girlfriend who also has one). All in all, I love it and would not give it up.
At A Glance Author anonymous Contact anonymous@bme.anon When Three months ago Artist can't remember - sorry Studio Wildcat Location Munich Well, time came that I decided to have another piercing. After having tried several other piercings (Septum – did not like the look after all, PA – that one I like very much), I must say that the tongue is still my favourite: hidden, sensual and extreme in its sense considering where it's located. Having looked at many of the BME pictures, a second tongue piercing has been for a long time in my mind. I hesitated since I was not sure to have that much metal in my mouth. Experiences were both, encouraging and the opposite. My other choice was to upgrade my PA to an Apadravya. Somehow I did not feel ready for that one, so I decided for more metal in my mouth. Unfortunately Sandra from Pyewacket is not around anymore, I opted for the successors in Munich - Wildcat (same location). Very professional environement, clean, discreet and nice people, very well organised and relaxed.
I made an appointment and kept it. After close examination of my tongue, we decided to pierce behind the first one (which was already rather backward). Since I have a rather long tongue, I did not want to have the piercing too much in front. Also, who knows, this may leave space for a third one. Anyways, the piercing procedure was as usual .- take out the first piercing, disinfect, mark and clamp. The piercing itself was swift and quick – somehow I thought it to be more painful than my first tongue piercing. Still, the feeling of having the tongue pierced is special. Anyways, it all went fine, quick and smooth. We did put in the other piercing. I was worried that they were too close (which happens sometimes as the BME-photos show). Well, then the look in the mirror....very very pleasing. Straight, two metal dots and perfectly in line. Very cool. My girlfriend, who was with me, agreed (which is important). Putting in the tongue is a bizarre feeling – and as everyone before me – quite a strange feeling to have so much metal in your mouth. It definitely makes a difference and you notice it permanently.
The healing: the tongue swelled up a lot. Lits of ice did not really help. Neither did no cigarettes, tea only and lots of water. Just like the first time. After two days I actually had to change back to the initial stud of the first tongue piercing, the longer one. The swelling continued for a couple of days. The tongue felt quite sore for about a week. And, of course the lisp came back. In about two weeks, all went back to normal – speech and tongue. The real difference besides the new feeling is that people now easier notice the piercing and two studs just shine more than a single one. At work people noticed quite quickly but since I don't work in a formal office environement, but in a rather artistic field, tolerance is natural. Anyways, I actually tried the piercing after about three weeks. Definitely a difference as the feeling is somehow more pronounced. My girlfriend likes it as well. I am still thrilled about the look! Kissing is still great - not so much different than before. My girlfriend however says that she likes to play with the two instead of one. Well, at least she's happy with the addition. I am very much for the looks. The piercing did become sore again a couple of weeks ago - this however went away after some more care (less cigarettes, coffee, more sleep). Piercings are just like skin - they reflect your general being and your heathly / or unhealth lifestyle. The feeling of having more metal in your mouth does go away after some time and as with the usual piercing, you get used to it. However, in your daily life, the piercing does come more in your way and you notice it more often - for me this is a positive thing and makes me conscient about my body mods.
So, go for it if you are considering it. If you love the tongue piercing like I do, then this is a natural step. I am already thinking of a third one, but, other projects should come first now: a new back tattoo and the above mentioned upgrade below the waist. Again this will be a different experience to come.
