So I have always wanted my tongue pierced since I was fourteen years old and got my bellybutton done. I had a couple friends that had it done and thought it looked so cool but I knew my parents would flip out if I ever mentioned getting it done. So I finally went to college and realized that there was nothing they could do if I got it done so I went for it!

Me and my friend decided to get it done with plenty of time to heal before we went back home for thanksgiving break to our families. So we got some balls and heard of a good place who had gotten her belly button done there and she told us that it was a really nice clean place. The whole ride there I was so nervous I would just sit there and stare into space, I could feel the nervousness start to get worse as we the parlor finally came into sight. We walked in and I was comforted to see that the place was very organized and clean looking. There was no one waiting so we were able to go right back, I'm glad because if I had sat and waited I might have freaked myself out so bad to the point where I would have backed out! I decided to go first because I didn't think I would be able to watch my friend get hers done first.

The room looked like a doctors office, I was told to go rinse out my mouth with Listerine and come back and sit down on the bench. The piercer wouldn't allow my friends to stand next to me and hold my hand which made me really nervous but I guess I can understand why and when I look back it makes them seem more professional. She dried off my tongue and made a purple mark where the needle would go through (which I now realize I never OKed the mark or even got to look at it in a mirror or anything). She asked if I was ready and I calmly said "yes" and she told me that it really didn't hurt (I didn't belive her for a second because I have the lowest pain tolerance in the world). She put the clamp on (which didn't hurt at all regardless of what you may hear) and put the needle through. I honestly didn't know she had done it, it's that painless...She told me to pull my tongue back in and go rinse out with diluted Listerine. I was amazed at how painless it was! Now, it was time to watch my friend get hers done. Same procedure, and my friend was shocked as to how little it hurt her too! We paid our 60 dollars and were on our way back home. We walked into about every pizza place on the way back and NO ONE had ice. So finally we stopped at a gas stations and bought Done's Back Pain (our friend told us it helps the swelling alot) and a HUGE cup of ice. We went out later that night to a Halloween party and we just sucked on ice the whole time, I wasn't in any pain but my tongue started swelling pretty bad. It swelled to the point where I had teeth indentations on my tongue! I was worried that it was going to swell up so bad it was going to block my airway (read it online) so I hardly slept at all that night.

The next day I woke up and it was REALLY swollen, I went down to our dining hall and watched everyone eat home fries, bagels, and eggs while I had some chicken broth and yogurt...I was mad! Later I bought some Slim fasts and soup. It was so frustrating trying to eat Potato leek soup because the little pieces of potato would get caught in the bar and it would hurt to try and get them out. Day's 2-5 I still couldnt eat real food until I forced myself to eat crackers and I found if I ate them on the side, it wasn't so bad. Slowly I started eating real food again and I never really had a problem talking this whole time. The swelling started going down a week later, and I even went home for the weekend and my parents didnt even notice it (I was VERY careful while talking). It's now been a week and a half and I love it! Although it was very frustrating that first week, I am glad I stuck it out and sucked it up because I love it now. There WILL be times when you think to yourself "Why did I do this!? I'm gonna take it out!" but just keep with it it's really not all that bad. I have to go back in a week or two to get the bar changed to a shorter one and I can't wait because this bar is WAY too long and its beginning to make a sore on the bottom of my mouth where it rubs. Good luck with your piercing just do it!
