I was introduced to piercing at a young age. When I first had my ears pierced as a little girl and a random salon with a gun. I think I must have only been about 5, but I remember loving my new piercings.

As I grew up I got quite tired of my plain lobe earrings and at the age of 14 I got my first cartilage piercing in my right ear. I stupidly took this out before it had healed for a short time and it closed up :(.

I missed it so much that 2 years on I decided to get it re-done but this time on my left ear. Whilst I was there I got another set in my lobes. I thought it looked great, but again it didn't satisfy me enough.

Soon I began to look up piercings on the internet and a friend told me about BME. After many hours of browsing through tons of photos on here, one piercing caught my eye that I had thought about before...a tongue piercing.

I knew straight away this was what I wanted to get next but I knew my parents weren't going to like it or let me.

I decided to research as much information as i possibly could about the piercing so I knew what I was in for, and hopefully impress my Mum that I knew what I was doing and it wasn't some rash decision. It was worth it.

I told my Mum my plans and I can't say she was happy, but she wasn't going to stop me, and could see that I had made a mature decision about it. Even if she had not approved I probably would have got it anyway, it wasn't like I needed parental permission now that I was 17.

As for telling my Dad - I didn't even bother telling him because I knew what he would say - no way. So I thought I'll get it done and then tell him after or let him find out and then he can't do anything about it.

The next step was finding a piercer - and as I had never had a piercing where I had to goto one before I asked my friends and looked around. I came across a place called 'Steel Infusions'. It looked really nice, clean and friendly, so I went in and browsed around all the tattoo designs and body jewellery they had whilst I waited for the guy behind the counter to finish with the customer he was dealing with.

I told him I was there to find out about tongue piercings and he took me thought to the piercing room and sat me down on the table. He told me he was going to check my tongue to see if I could be pierced or not - which I was YEY! And then told me all about what would happen and how to look after it etc, basically everything I already knew through researching it on the net. Once he had finished I told him I would be back the following wednesday to do the deed!

Wednesday rolled around pretty quick and I returned along with three other friends in tow. One of them who was going to get her Tragus done at the same time as I got my tongue done, and the other two for moral support.

We signed out consent forms. picked out our jewellery - I went for titanium gold, handed over our money (we got a discount that was on for that month only of half price jewellery if you get pierced at the same time as a friend) - mine cost £25 in the end. And then went through to the waiting lounge - a three seater comfy sofa. As I waited I became more nervous because all I could think was 'This is it...I'm really going through with this...' and pretty soon I was called in to the piercing room.

I went in he got me to do a mouth rinse using that pink solution like they have at the dentists - yuk! And sat down on the table like before and he went through what he was going to do again. He then dried my tongue and double checked I could have it done and then marked it out for me. He then handed me a small mirror so I could look at the placement and see if it was ok - It was the perfect position first time! Exactly where I wanted it so he proceeded. He put on some rubber gloves, got the jewellery ready, and opened a fresh needle.

He then clamped my tongue and told me to breathe in and then out and he would do it on the out breath. I counted down in my head '3.....2....1....'. And it was over before I could finish the '1'. No pain, not a flinch, no bleeding, only an odd pushing sensation. The needle was in, next to come was the jewellery which I thought might be more painfull - but it wasn't at all, it was just a very odd sensation of the cold jewellery passing through my tongue. He then screwed on the top ball tightly and it was all done.

It felt very big and odd, and he handed me the mirror again...i loved it. It was better than I had ever imagined and in exact position I wanted. I left with a huge smile on my face and one of my friends was disapointed I didn't have a lisp when I spoke. I tried to limit my speaking on the way home as not to disturb or irritate my fresh piercing too much.

When I got home I was really hungry and I decided to try and eat some soup....I couldn't even eat the crutons on the top...so I gave up and just drank some more water. A couple of days later and I could eat properly again - although there was a crunch on my barbell a couple of times.

I went back two weeks later to get a change down from my original 20mm bar to a 16mm, this time Tom wasn't in to do it so the woman who worked there did it and it all looked fine.

I love my tongue piercing and I would tell anyone considering getting it to do for it - you won't regret it! I'm already planning all my next piercings...spiral in my right ear next...maybe a nipple...
