My name is Autumn and I've been wanting to get my tongue pierced ever since my older sister got hers done years ago. I've had my ears done 3 times, my bellybutton and my nose pierced (all done by ME), but I always had thought that I would have to end up having to wait until I was 18 for that kind of piercing--it wasn't something I was going to try to do by myself. Then I started talking about it with one of my friends, CJ. She was excited as well and planned to get hers a couple days later at a local tattoo shop, Point Blank, for $40. Then the next day she ended up getting an expensive speeding ticket, so she didn't have enough money left over to get her tongue pierced. Her birthday was coming up so CJs friend Brandi decided she would take her to get her tongue pierced for her birthday.

However, they didn't go to Point Blank. Brandi's cousin Karie is a licensed professional piercer in Salina, KS, an hour away, and would do it in her house for only $15. The catch is you have to provide your own needle & barbell. CJ had a 16-gauge cow-ear-piercing needle like the one we'd used to pierce her bellybutton, so she brought that. The problem was was that her barbell was a 14G and the needle was a smaller 16G, so they encountered some problems and ended up having to pierce her tongue twice. I wasn't there but CJ said it hurt like hell. I was scared but I wanted it so bad I couldn't wait.
A couple weeks later me, Brandi, and CJ set out to Salina to get my tongue pierced. CJ's whole needle-experience frightened me, so Brandi said for about $3 Karie would provide a professional tongue-piercing needle for me. So when I got there I gave Karie $18 while she went to a local store to get a needle, and me CJ and Brandi went to McDonald's because I was told I would be hungry the next couple days because I wouldn't be able to eat as much with my tongue pierced. When Karie got back she got out the clamp, the needle, and the sparkly barbell I bought a couple days before and put them in a tray and sanitized them.
Then after what seemed like forever, Karie sat me down on a cooler in front of her, gave me a cloth to put under my chin to catch the drool, and had me stick out my tongue while she figured out where she would put the clamp. It was hard to stick out my tongue that far, but finally she got the clamp on where it needed to be. She told me that it needed to be so far back because otherwise it would clink against my teeth--and that was what caused teeth-chipping. Most people say the clamp is the worst part, but having been told that so many times, I prepared for much worse pain, so the clamp ended up not being *that* bad. Then she showed me the needle and how it had a whole on the opposite end where the barbell could be easily threaded through, making the process way simpler than CJ's. Then Karie told me to take a deep breath, breath out, take another deep breath, and as I breathed out she stuck the needle through. It was quick--I felt a sharp pain, and I saw her quickly take the needle out, then take off the clamp, and then screw the ball on. As I closed my mouth I felt a rush of drool and cleaned it up with the cloth, then said "Thhhaaa waaant thaa baddd" as Karie laughed at me. Then she gave me a glass of water and I washed my mouth out. I didn't even think it was bleeding til I saw out a speck of blood in the sink. It was really hard for me to spit out the water--it seemed like the ball on my tongue was in the way. But I was excited and went and got ice to suck on. Five minutes afterwards I didn't even feel it--totally worth it! It's been a couple days since, and the swelling is going down. The only down part of it was I didn't get a longer barbell that you usually get in professional tattoo shops to accommodate the swelling, so my tongue has a little crater in it. CJs has gone away so I'm just waiting for mine to. So my advice to anyone out there wanting to get it done--definitely do it. Make sure you don't attempt it yourself though, make sure you have a professional do it. But definitely go through with it--it "\Ãw€ë 's worth it!
