I've always loved and been intrigued by piercing. Even though my parents have always hated them I've went on ahead any way and have got them done.

I have always loved playing with things in my mouth and ever since I got the side of my lip done I felt that I wanted my tongue done.
I phoned my friends up in Belfast to ask them if they would like to meet me and come with me to get my tongue pierced. They agreed and one of them wanted to get her lip done as well. I was kind of nervous on the train up but my brother has got both his lip and his tongue done and said that his lip was the worst and since I barely felt that I very much doubted my tongue would hurt.
We got up to the place and made an appointment to get pierced within the next couple of hours. I was quite jittery and excited as I thought of what was to come. When we got back to the place my friend went first and while she was in I signed the forms and was given a talk on aftercare which I was well aware of already. My friend came out and I asked her if she thought it hurt and she said no. The place I got pierced in was clean and numbed the piercing so by this time I was prepared as much as I could be for what I was about to go through and I was jumping around shaking my friend with an big grin on my face.
When it was my turn I asked if a friend could come in with me but he said he was only insured for two people in the room. The room was quite small but still had ample space to move around and not feel claustrophobic in it.
The guy who was doing the piercing showed me the needle and barbell that he was about to us in my tongue and I was thinking how strange it was that they would soon be sticking in my tongue. I thought that I would have preferred if he didn't show me the instrument that he would be piercing me with.
He was lovely and reassured me throughout the whole thing. I was told to sit up on the reclining chair (rather like the one dentists use) and bring my head towards him and tilt my head back. I pulled my head back slightly because of the uncomfortable position my neck was in but he gently forced my head in the right position and he brought out the clamps to stick on my tongue. He sprayed the numbing spray on it and marked the place on my tongue that he was to pierce. The worst part was the clamping, it was uncomfortable as he made me stick my tongue out really far and he inserted the clamps. I was preparing myself for a sharp stab of pain and was quite awed and relieved when he said it was all over. It was through. I hadn't felt it! He cut the plastic tube to size and put the bar through with no problems at all. I was overjoyed as I looked in the mirror! There was no
Blood and it hadn't started to swell yet (he said it would swell mostly at night) and when I got out side I started to stick my tongue out at random people and my friends as I was so proud of it.
Me and my friends set off down the town before I got the train home to find the recommended mouthwash for our newly acquired holes. There was none left of the stuff I was told to get so I chose a non-alcohol one to balance out the difference. It seems to have done the trick because my tongue is healing beautifully and I can't be happier with it!!
My mum was not best impressed when I showed her and eating lasagne and chips required a lot of effort but it was all worth it.
The swelling stopped within four days and now three months or so afterwards.
I can bite both the top and bottom balls and I take great delight in
Grossing my fellow peers with it. If anyone is thinking of getting it
Pierced I strongly recommend it and remember to do research on different places that do piercing to find the place that suits you best. The Otherside in Belfast is a great place and I really would point a friend in their direction if they ask where the best place to get a piercing is. You don't want to be uncomfortable getting any piercing and as the tongue is a muscle filled with veins you don't want to risk infection or heavy bleeding!
