Ok it had been 4 months since my last encounter with a fresh needle and I was starting to get a craving! My last piercing was my lower navel to match my top navel piercing; this is when my new addiction for piercing started! I had stumbled pone this web site looking for new ideas and that's when I saw pictures of central tongue piercing, they looks so sexy! I had to have 1, I stared for ages looking at as many picture as possible. I then started to read the stories that people had posted up to get any idea on the pain factor and after care etc. after a full week of analysing and dreaming I decided this was going to be my next piercing.
Next part to my plan was my dad, I guessed this would be easy as I didn't have a mum to persuade and my dad was much more understanding of my teenage needs. I was 16 at the time so I didn't need his permission to get it done as I had my passport and a past history at my local piercing place, but being nice I decided to share my love with him. At first he was a bit off with the idea but I told him about what I had read and that I had considered all the usual parent worries. After little effort he agreed, but the deal was I had to get my older sisters to agree. This may sound easy but I had 3 older sisters who had taken to them self to replace my mother, I didn't live with them but I was about to spend Christmas with them. I explained my need of a new piercing to them and they just laughed, one of my sisters had her tongue pierced in the past but found the pain too much and took it out so she said I would never go through with. So on that they said yes thinking I would bottle out.
Ok!! I had everything I needed, family support, money, passport and a friend to attend me to the shop and a full stock of ice cream and yoghurts kindly donated by my dad. I knew the place I was going to go Tat2u! I had been there for all my other piercing so I felt safe and the guy Clunkers who pierced me was funny and gentle and over all he isn't your stereotypical piercer, he was short and looked about 20 of course he had the usual body filled with piercing and tattoos, but I would go have a chat with him so I wasn't nervous.
That was until the bus ride after college, me and my friend sat watching as we grew nearer to the shop which was the last stop on the bus, I listened to music to keep me calm but as we got closer the adrenalin started to kick in this was good in a way because I counted on it to get me in to the shop and on to the chair. As I walked in to the shop Clunkers was sat reading a comic, I waved and me smiled and asked what he could do for me this time! I told him about my new idea and he stuck out his tongue proudly and handed me the paper work, as I sat on the sofa I noticed they had changed the colour of them to bright blue. I told Clunkers who laughed and said I came in to much if I noticed that. I handed back the paper work which I much admit was a bit shaky because I was feeling a tad nervous.
I followed clunker round to the back which still looked the same, I sat down and watched as he pulled new packets of needles and placed his tools and my new bar on a tray, next he washed his hands and put on his black gloves, this was to scare people he said! He asked me to wash my mouth out and sit back down. Next he dried my tongue out so it was unbelievably dry. After he pulled out is purple pen from behind his ear and started to mark up my tongue, he lifted it up and down and side to side. First he laughed then tutted. He explained that because of the overly long vein going down the middle of my tongue it meant that he would have to pierce it a bit wonky but it wouldn't be noticeable from the top. Then the good news. He told me that to make up for the vein being to long he said my tongue was extra thin so he said that the swelling would be nothing and the pain would be nothing. I hoped he was right.
Right no going back, he was holding my tongue by clamps now so if I tried to get away my tongue would most likely stay with him in the clamps, so best bet was to sit back and pray. I closed my eyes and as told took a deep in and out, as I breathed in he pushed the needle through, I fought he was pulling the clamps tighter to get ready, next I could feel him fiddling round and then done. I blinked at him and moved my tongue. Wow there was really I bit of metal there I was shocked at how little it hurt. I sat up and looked in the mirror, apart from the fact there was a purple smudge on my tongue it looked great, I was a little surprised that it wasn't bleeding. I span round and smiled at James who handed me a big bottle of anti-septic mouthwash and explained the aftercare (he then gave it to me on paper because I wasn't really listening; I was more looking past him to see my tongue in the mirror)
I walked back to the front of the shop and was greeted by my friend who had a butterscotch milkshake with extra ice waiting for me (it was heaven!!) I paid my £25 and told Clunkers I would be back in 2 weeks.
Overall I didn't experience much swelling and eating habits didn't stop just timed by about 2 hours and involved pushing soft food in tiny portions to the side of my mouth and chewing very slowly. My friends loved it. but by the next day I have to say my whole mouth was sore and talking didn't make it feel much better so when everyone I could possibly know asked me to show them and the most common question, "did it hurt?" really didn't help but I was determined to coap. a week and 3 days later my tongue was back to normal and I was eating normally the only problem was the bar was like twice the length of my tongue and I kept chewing it so I went back to clunker 4 days early and asked if I could have it changed. He said he doubted it but would have a look. He wasn't too happy when he said I could because he had to wait 3 weeks till his was ready to change. I guess I was just lucky.
3 weeks on and it' fine, sometimes when I wake up I have to check it is still there, I still clean it religiously with my mouth watch twice a day and it is by far my favourite piercing.
I guess if you are reading this you are researching yourself and to you I say go for it, just make sure you get your tongue checked out before hand to make sure it can be piercied and go somewhere you trust and over all keep it clean. By keeping to this you will have a life long happy piercing and your tongue will love the ice cream diet trust me go for it or you will regret it.
Happy piercing!!!
