A tongue piercing has become such a staple and a well known piercing, not only in the body modification society but our society as a whole. I began my venture into bodmods rather early, at the age of 14 with a nipple piercing. Before the comments come in as to who would pierce a minor and how unhealthy that is due to the body growing, I was uneducated at this point. All I knew was that I could get it pierced and that I wanted it pierced. I was very lucky that my piercer wasn't a hack and was successful. I still have the piercing til this day and it is still one of my favorites.

At first I was questioning getting my tongue pierced, I was scared of my father finding out at the time, and also weary of its trendiness. I wanted to get piercings to be an individual when I was younger, and now I realize all I need to be an individual is myself and who I am. Despite this I decided to go on with it, and went to the same guy that did my nipple.

As for the procedure, it was pretty simple. First sitting down getting situated. The lecture of aftercare, ½ water ½ Listerine after everything (smoking, eating, to clean it), no oral sexual contact for as long as possible a month was suggested and importantly no playing with it until it's completely healed. Then he patted the tongue down with paper towels, then he marked my tongue with a felt tip marker. He asked me to check the placement as where it would be. The clamps went on the needle went through. The needle took only ½ a second to pass through but stung like hell on the way out. The drool flowed down and down with the needle still in my tongue. "Hold it! Hold it Hold your tongue out." He said to me trying to get the jewelry together to put through. Now when you have just gotten pierced in your tongue the last thing you want is to have jewelry pushing in where you just got it pierced, nor do you have total control of your tongue at this point. For me this was the worst part trying to keep your tongue out while drool is pouring and you're in pain. Either way the jewelry went in and he screwed the ball on. I had a nice 14 gauge SS barbell in my mouth.

I got a cup of ice that helped(didn't help the drooling) the pain. I was talking fine unlike a lot of people that I know who have gotten the piercing done. Eating was difficult for the first 3 days or so, but it was okay. Out of the whole procedure the first day was the worst, the swelling and the soreness is defiantly worse than the act of getting it pierced.

This tale defiantly does not end here. As I feared the tongue piercing only got more and more popular. I didn't like this and I ended up having more friends with the tongue piercing and multiple times having me go with them for the procedure. I felt it was time to make some more alterations on my tongue. I went for my second tongue piercing, middle and in front of the first piercing. The procedure went the same, except being more forward. The healing this time was much worse. My tongue swelled much worse and made both piercings sore. I talked very poorly and it took about a week for me to talk normally. It healed nicely in about 2-3 weeks. I loved it and was quite happy.

Since my friends love me so much and I guess I'm such an inspiration to them, 2 of them decided to do the same. They barely could talk either and made a huge deal about it, meanwhile I like to keep my piercings for the most part to myself as because they are for solely myself.

I decided to go for something that I knew that no one else would do. I wanted a horizontal tongue piercing. Since I saw the piercing on BME I fell in love so unusual and beautiful. My first mistake was going to someone that hasn't done it before. My second was not enough research. I believe that he did this piercing freehand. This piercing took forever, well not really but it felt like forever and it hurt worse than hell. I have a high pain tolerance and a piercing usually does not phase me. This was probably my worst piercing and I've gotten over 20. This piercing did not stand a chance with me, it hurt to bad, I couldn't talk or eat and could barely close my mouth. I took it out about a day or 2 later.

I had gotten sick of the two piercings and decided to take one out for a while, I still wanted something different rather badly. I decided to start stretching it, so I went from a 14 ga to a 10ga which went rather smoothly. At the tattoo convention I went from a 10 to a 6ga which barely hurt. Just slightly sore and the barbell felt tight around the ring.

After a few months I knew that I had wanted to go larger, I went to Andromeda to see Mikel to stretch it to a 4ga. I figured that it wouldn't hurt too badly since the others hadn't hurt as badly before. I was wrong. The sizes had a much bigger difference. The 2 tapers went through pretty quick but it stung like a bitch, my eyes watered pretty badly. My eyes weren't the only thing watering my mouth looked like I was a foaming rabid dog, pretty embarrassing but Mikel is a friend so it was okay. After it didn't stop hurting, for about 3-4 days. During the 3-4 days it was very swollen and sore. I almost took it out. I didn't because I knew I wanted it and I loved how it looked. After a week it was much better and I knew I was very pleased with the result.

I am now satisfied and I love this piercing. I don't know if I'll go and stretch it anymore but I am happy for the time being.

I love BME and I love this community.

With much love,
