I was so excited when I was looking through this site and saw a venom for the first time, so I rang the local well only piercing studio to see if they had heard of it, I know now this may have sounded stupid but I have dealt with people who only know the more common piercings and just wanted to check.
At A Glance Author Adam Contact adamlynagh@hotmail.com When A week ago Artist Lori Studio Vogue Body piercing Location Darwin Australia It was all good and I was explained the piercing and how it differed in both healing time and pain when being performed and I couldn't wait to book it in, the only thing stopping me was I was still in the military and they don't like piercings for some reason, so it would have to wait.
Finally my discharge was finalized and I called in to the studio to book it in, I wanted internally threaded bars etc so I had to wait a week or two for them to be ordered in but I didn't mind, I would rather wait and get the good stuff then just do with something I am not happy with.
The day has come... I began the day normally knowing my appointment wasn't until 4pm so I was just flexing out at home. Then I got a phone call. It was Lori; she wanted to postpone the appointment... NO I thought to my self I had just began to build myself up to it... I told her I couldn't and it would have to be today, I had plans for the next week and I couldn't wait another week I had to get it done today.
I went to the studio, went in to the piercing room and was told to take a seat to do the mark up. While Lori was preparing she was explaining to me again the whole process and then she inspected my tongue. We agreed where the piercings would go as I have somewhat large veins on the underside of my tongue so we had to miss them. With both of us happy I moved to the table and lay down.
As I lay there I was beginning to concentrate on my breathing and settling down, just trying to relax. Lori showed me all the implements she would be using, all in there sterile bags, frankly I didn't care, I knew she would only use sterile equipment and I wasn't worried over the details.
The clamp was applied, but it wasn't as tight as when I had a Centre tongue piercing at a different shop, she told me to just breath and then I felt the tip of the needle on my tongue. A little bit of pressure and it had broken though the first layer. It seemed to take forever to go through but it wasn't as painful as I thought it would be.
Then the second needle touched my tongue and I took a deep breath and it slowly entered the other side of my tongue. I don't know if it was a little shock or if my tongue had gone numb but it didn't seem to hurt as much as the first side. I lay there with the two needles protruding from my now somewhat sore tongue, and I just focussed on breathing and keeping my tongue out. My tongue wanted to come back in to my mouth all the time and was quivering a little, probably due to having two needles inserted in it... but overall was good. The ends of the needles were cut and the jewelry was inserted.
Warmth was felt at the back of my throat and I knew it was blood, Lori told me to have a spit out and I was surprised at how much blood there was. Now I know why the Inca's and Mayans used to pierce their tongue to draw blood for the gods, it doesn't take much to get a fair bit of blood. After two rinses with cold water though it had stopped.
Now my tongue swelled about 3 times its normal size and everything was hard for the first few days, eating, coughing, talking etc but at about day 4 it settled down and the swelling was decreasing more rapidly. Lori first told me that due to the piercing going through the muscle it would take longer to heal say around 2-3 weeks but its been only 1 week and the swelling has gone.
I will be going back to the studio in the next week to get my downsize bars put in and then we will see just how much my partner and I enjoy this new piercing. Lori was great and if any one else is in Darwin and thinking of getting a piercing... trust me don't go to a chemist or some dodgy hairdresser, go straight to vogue, you wont be disappointed.
