It was about a year ago, so I had just turned 17. I was in a relationship where the guy and I both loved body modification. I had already done a few piercings on my own. I had done my nose, navel, ears, nipples, etc. The list goes on. I also had my tongue done. I did the first one when I was in 8th grade.

I had bought a surgical needle and washed my mouth out with Listerine. First, I took the needle and sterilized it. I did this by boiling it in water and then pouring alcohol on it. Then I stuck my tongue out. I wasn't that nervous because I had been researching the many veins and muscles in the tongue itself and I found myself confident in that. One thing that did have me nervous though was the pain. I had no idea if it was going to hurt at all or be the worst pain in the world. I then took a pen and marked where I was going to put the jewelry. I looked in the mirror, took a deep breath and plunged the needle into my tongue. To my surprise it didn't hurt at all, at least until I got to the bottom of my tongue. But that was over pretty quick. I slide the jewelry into the needle and slowly slide the needle out leaving the jewelry inside my tongue. I couldn't stop drooling after that. It seemed like I had buckets and buckets of it!
Then when I was in 11th grade, I decided that I was going to pierce my tongue another time. I got another needle sterilized it the same way and did the same stuff as before. I marked my tongue, making sure that it was directly in line with the first one. When I stuck my tongue out, it was a bit harder to get too. I was afraid that I was going to stick my lip with the needle so I had a cork ready. I took another deep breath and proceeded to put another hole in my tongue. This time, it didn't hurt at all! I still drooled though, and my boyfriend who was waiting on the phone for me started to laugh at me when I said that I couldn't stop drooling. It may have been funny to him but it was quite messy for me. He then decided that he wanted to see this for himself and drove himself to my house to continue to laugh .....While I drooled. I got my pay back though. I kissed him and got drool all over him. I got a good laugh out of that.
Finally, after my 2nd tongue piercing was healed I decided that I wanted one more behind the two that I already had. I did the same steps as before and stuck the needle. I will admit, when I pierced my tongue it was a little crooked that time. It ended up leaning towards the front, but I didn't care. I was proud of myself...until the next day at school.
I had gone through the half of the day without any problems at all. My tongue was a little swollen but that was normal and I was used to it. I went to lunch and ate what little school food I could handle. When I got back to class I proceeded to make sure that my piercing was ok. The top was fine but when I went to make sure that the bottom ball was still on tight I couldn't find it! I asked my teacher if I could go to the bathroom and he said yes (thank god). When I got there I looked in the mirror, opened my mouth and lifted up my tongue. The ball was nowhere in sight. I felt underneath where the ball should have been and to my surprise, I felt it. When I was eating my food it must have ripped through the lower layer of my tongue, which I found out later that I had pierced through part of my tongue web, and was stuck between the tongue web and my actual tongue. I had to push it out from where it ripped and decided that it was never going to stay where I wanted it too so I took out my 3rd tongue piercing. I was sad, but at the same time happy since I didn't have to worry about it anymore. I have learned my lesson and now know not to go over 3 tongue piercings...at least ones that go in a straight line back.
I strongly urge anyone who is considering getting their tongue pierced to go to a professional. What I did was very dangerous and I could have been seriously hurt.
