I had my tongue pierced for the first time a few months after my fifteenth birthday. It took about two years of erosion on my mom's morals to convince her to take me. I had previous plans of having it done without her knowledge, but her promise to allow it next summer subdued me. That went through awesomely and I was left with a new favorite toy. I did not have too many negative responses to my first tongue piercing, since it has for some reason become much more common with people my age. I still loved my piercing even though it was not as big a deal as it once was, and adoration for it was not effected by it's recent redundancy.

More and more I combed through BME at all the wonderful things I never knew you could do to various body parts. I was intrigued and decided something must be done to further advance my mods. I told my mom that I wanted to pierce my tongue again, and she kind of freaked out so I left it at that. I am quite used to getting what I want without much assistance, and that is how I like it. It was not long before I discovered the BME shop, and rapidly made out the plans for my piercing journey. About ten days later I was so excited, it had finally came in! My mom was in Ireland, and I was staying with a friend, so my studio ended up being her bathroom. I knew at the time that this was not the best idea, but I was desperate and was taking advantage of the best resources in my reach. One thing I made sure of was that I washed my hands with antibacterial soap and brushed my teeth thoroughly. The needle was, to my knowledge, as sterile as possible, but I took precautionary measures and wiped it with alcohol and the same with the clamps. The clamps were an awesome thing to have considering my tongue is VERY short and Mitch had problems getting it out far enough to pierce it the first time, much less the second time, even farther back in my mouth. I marked it of course, with a piercing marker, and was all set. After all the initial excitement and preparation without much thought of what I was really about to do, came the ultimate question; "Am I really about to stick this needle through my tongue??"

At first I stood there, clamps in hand, my tongue in clamps, looking at myself in the mirror with this two inch needle held above my tongue. Realization kind of dawned on me of how crazy I am, and there was no way I could go through with it. I put everything up and went into the other room. I sat there about three minutes then ran back in the bathroom and set it all back up again. This time though, I pushed on the needle just a little bit to see how bad it would hurt. I had barely even moved the needle and I saw some blood on the top of my tongue. Without really thinking I just shoved it (slowly) the rest of the way in. Then my friend walked in to see my staring at myself with my tongue pulled out and a needle sticking out BOTH sides of my tongue. She knows me all too well, and thankfully knew my plans beforehand, so just casually walked around and acted like nothing was going on to be excited about. I looked at her and said, "An ooh baweeve ah jus did hat??" She was like, "Uh, no." My hands were shaking so bad that it was kind of difficult getting the barbell into the needle, and pushing it through without loosing it, but I was determined and there was no way that I could screw this up after I had come so far.

My friend's parents are very old, white, and conservative people (they will not even let her pierce her ear cartilage) and did not know about my first tongue piercing, so heaven forbid they should find out about this one. We had a big dinner that night; steak, steamed rice, and corn. I sat right across from her dad and did my best to eat just about everything without showing the pain it was causing my tongue. I had just pierced my tongue web the day before so it was under a lot of strain. It is a good thing my tongue is so short, so there was minimal swelling, and just about no effect on my speech, so I got through dinner much better than I probably should have. Two days later my mom came home. It has been about a week and she still does not know. I suppose she will discover it one day, but not anytime soon. I was VERY VERY lucky that I did not hit a major vein in my tongue and rapidly bleed to death, and I warn all of you not to make the mistake I did. Have a professional do it for you.

Note: The odds of bleeding to death from a tongue piercing are slim to none. Possible, yes, but very unlikely.
