Single, center tongue piercings are totally cliched with young people, right? In the past year or so, I've noticed that. And I hate cliched piercings, and although I already have some, I try to steer clear of them. I had wanted my tongue pierced for a while, thus the search began for something different.

Of course, I was looking through BME, and I found a surface tongue piercing, which I later decided against because it would most likely reject. I found horizontal tongue piercings, which I was talked out of because of the possibility of hitting the main veins in your tongue and whatnot. I continued my search, and I found tongue venoms. I had originally really wanted a surface piercing on my tongue, and venoms were the next best thing, considering from the top, it looked like a surface piercing.

My mother hasn't always been a great fan of piercings, but she's not completely against them, she's been pretty cool through my whole process of getting pierced. I've gotten things done without telling her before, but I decided to make her apart of this. I asked her if I could get my tongue pierced, and when she finally said yes, I told her i wanted venoms, and because she didn't know what they were, I found a picture on BME and showed her. She said yes to those afterwards, but told me that she would "prefer" that I only get one tongue piercing. Too bad, my heart was set on those venoms.

For a while I read experiences, looked at pictures, and talked to people about it. I talked to my piercer too. I finally decided to make a date, and due to money shortage and not wanting to go through two piercings in one day, I decided to get them pierced on separate dates, two weeks apart to let the swelling on the first one go down before I got the second one.

Anyway, piercing day number one came. I brought my boyfriend along with me, for support I guess, and someone's hand to hold. His mom drove us to the mall and we took the bus to Westcoast from there. I got in the shop and filled out the forms, and Dirk went over aftercare with me. There had been a lady getting her bellybutton pierced before me, so due to some delays, I had to wait about 45 minutes, there was also a guy getting his eyebrow pierced before me also. Now let me tell you, sitting in a waiting room for 45 minutes while its 30ºC outside is NOT my idea of fun, but it was worth the wait. Finally, my turn came.

I got in the piercing room and sat up on the bed. Dirk looked at my tongue to make sure veins wouldn't get in the way or anything and all was well. He told me that because my tongue was pretty skinny he could pierce it with a shorter bar than he regularly would, so that sounded good to me, I don't have to have a huge piece of metal in my mouth. He gave me mouthwash which was absolutely disgusting (the nasty yellow kind), marked my tongue, put the clamps on (had to readjust the clamps because it was really pinching the first time) and then pierced it. Easy as cake! It was very minimal pain, and my tongue didn't bleed too much. After the jewelry was in he gave me a cup of cold water which made it feel much better. All in all, not a big deal. I paid them, and I was on my way.

Afterwards we went to Wendy's for food, but I got a frosty because my tongue was swelling and I didn't want to eat anything. Swelling wasn't too bad, it had minimized greatly after the two weeks when I was getting my tongue pierced the second time.

Anyway, piercing day number two came. Since the first piercing didn't hurt bad, I wasn't nervous. BIG mistake. We went through the same process as the first, but getting the clamps on was harder this time because I kept accidentally moving my tongue and the clamps kept slipping. Dirk finally got the clamps on, and stuck the needle through. Oh boy, let me tell you, it HURT. Second most painful piercing I've ever gotten. It bled a lot more than the first one too. After we were done, I bought two shorter bars to put in after the swelling had gone down, and that was that.

Swelling for the second piercing lasted longer than the first one, but it wasn't too bad. I put the shorter bars in after about a month. My tongue feels great now! I haven't had any problems, I use mouthwash 1-2 times daily, and that's it. Healing seems to be going just fine. All in all, I suggest this piercing to anyone.
