I have secretly been wanting to get my tongue pierced for a while but I am not good with pain so I didn't even bother asking my mom to take me. I have been reading stories on BME and most of the people said it didn't hurt and it heals quick, so I decided to give it a go. My mom is really cool about stuff like this so I thought that she would take me, but when I asked she said no. For the next week I BEGGED her to take me and she gave in (WOO HOO)!
At A Glance Author Danica Contact Angeleyes4680@aol.com When A week ago Artist I dont know her name Studio Zebra Location Berkely, CA During vacation I was so excited that the trip seemed to take FOREVER to end. Four days seemed like 10 days to me but Friday had to come around eventually. Friday morning came and I ate A LOT for breakfast cause I knew I wouldn't be able to eat normal for a couple of days and I didn't want to pass out because I didn't have food in my stomach. called the piercing studio to ask some questions and I found out that they had a spray to numb it so I was even more excited.
When we got there we filled out all the necessary forms picked out the jewelry ( I chose clear balls so you couldn't really see it) got a number and waited. The piercer was at lunch and wouldn't be back for about 10 minutes. I Really had to pee so I ran across the street to use their bathroom ( I didn't want to pee my pants while I was getting pierced HAHA). The piercer wasn't back when I got back so I looked at all the drawings of possible tattoo's. My number was called so my brother my mom and I walked to the back. I thought I was going to be nervous at this point but I was really calm ( I guess its because all the people that worked there are awesome and made me feel comfortable),my Mom was more nervous than I was. The girl told me to sit in the chair and stick my tongue out.
She wiped my tongue with a paper towel and sprayed the numbing spray and told me it would start to burn but to keep it in my mouth. After a minute of burning she told me to spit it out. I stuck my tongue back out and she marked the spot I checked and said ok then she put the clamps on. From all the stories I have read I thought that the "DREADED CLAMPS" were going to be uncomfortable but they werent, I couldn't even feel them. Without any warning she pierced me( its better when they don't tell you so your not building up all these thoughts about how its going to hurt). I didn't feel anything and I didn't hear that "pop" that everyone mentions when they get it pierced. She put in the jewelry and I was done. The Spray hurt more than the piercing itself it really BURNS when they put it on my eyes were watering but it goes away and everything was numb. The numbing sensation lasted for about 10 to 15 minutes, I didn't want it to ware off I was afraid I would be in pain if it did but it was fine.
After we walked back to the car I went and bought Jamba Juice which was hard to drink cause I couldn't suck anything through the straw, it sure felt good on my tongue though. The morning after wasn't that bad. I woke up cleaned my tongue(which now had swollen to twice its size) and attempted to eat breakfast.
Day two was the same as day one the swelling hadn't gone down much and it was still hard to eat but hey I tried. By day three I had learned to eat normal and was getting in the habit of rinsing my mouth with sea salt everytime I put some thing besides water in my mouth.
Day four the swelling has gone down quite a bit. Now I can eat anything I want without any trouble. I lost almost 5 pounds over the last few days but im gaining it back now that I can eat again ;).
Try not to talk unless you have to because when you talk it swells more. And I learned that the hard way. I suggest Gly-Oxide for cleaning the piercing. Gly-Oxide bubbles when it hits your tongue which feels pretty good.
I already LOVE this piercing and the swelling hasn't even gone down all the way yet. Any one who is thinking about it should just go for it. It's easy to hide if you have strict parents, my dad hasn't noticed it yet( haha ). If your in the Bay Area in California go to Zebra they are the best!
