I've been raised in a very strict household. My father has always frowned upon piercings and tattoos, hence the reason I loved them so much. My father had always forbid me from getting my belly button pierced which I really wanted done. One day I was able to convince my mom to take me to do it behind my father's back and I promised to hide it from him. So I went and got it done but it didn't end up healing very well so a couple of months later it came out. I did it again the following year and again it came out so that is when i gave up on my belly button.

I then began college, I went two hours away for college which meant one thing, freedom. Right away I decided that I wanted to do something to proclaim this freedom but I wasn't sure what it was going to be, piercing or tattoo. I decide I wasn't ready for a tattoo so I was going to get a piercing. I looked at web sites upon web sites until I began to like the tongue piercings.

I knew this wouldn't be accepted in my house but I came across a friend who just got her tongue pierced. I had talked to her for a month straight before even realizing she had had it pierced. She told me that the place she went to pierced her tongue far back so that it wasn't so noticeable. I started thinking about the idea and bugging my roommate about it.

I day I looked over to her and said "if you do it I'll do it" and she just looked back and said "OK". That night I looked all over the internet for web sites on tongue piercings, how safe they are, how fast they heal, how to take care of them. I found out that they are one of the fastest healing body parts.

The next day me and my roommate head off to the city in Albany to a piercing place and we get our tongues pierced. I went first because i was too scared of chickening out after seeing her get hers done. It went in easily and it didn't hurt at all. I loved it. It got swollen but that was normal and it lasted for five days. I drank a lot of soup n ate a lot of ice cream. After the first few weeks it was perfect and I loved it. I didn't regret my decision at all and neither did my roommate. It brought us a lot closer together.

I've had it in for a few months now and I have bought a lot of tongue rings off the internet. It is something I really enjoy and it isn't something that is noticed right away after talking to me which is a plus. I have been able to hide it from my father with a plastic retainer that works perfectly. He hasn't noticed it at all. I told my mother about it and she barely remembers I have it. It really can't be seen when I talk.

I told a friend all about my experience and he decided to go get his tongue pierced but he ended up bleeding at night after he got it done and it hurt him a lot so he took it out.

I cleaned mine three times a day by rinsing with mouth wash which dried out my tongue so I watered down the mouth wash which worked a lot better. My tongue and my roommate's tongue both healed perfectly which is surprising considering my belly button's terrible job of healing.

I would definitely recommend any one interested in getting a tongue piercing to run and get it. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I enjoy it, and my boyfriend enjoys it.

The only difficulties I have with my tongue piercing is sucking on things such as a lollipop or ice cream or any food of that nature like a popsicle. I was told not to eat spaghetti but I don't have any problems eating it. Chewing gum is really easy. I have never had a problem with that at all and that was an initial concern of mine so that was a relief. Other than that eating is completely normal. My mouth doesn't hurt at all.. One in a while i take everything out to clean my tongue a lot and it feels weird to have a naked tongue because I am so used to it. I have yet to chip a tooth which I hear happens a lot. It is harder for me to chew on my tongue ring I think because it is so far back.

It took a while for me to convince myself to go through with the tongue piercing but once I did I did not regret it at all. I think it was one of the best things I have ever done because it makes me feel unique and it gives others something to be curious about. It sets me apart from the rest. It not only feels good emotionally but physically. It is fun to play with now and then and my boyfriend says it is a lot better when it comes to making out.

I definitely think everyone should go out there and try getting a tongue ring but I also recommend getting it pierced far back. I think that is the reason I enjoy mine as much as i do.
