I could start this at age 10 when I first wanted a piercing (I was in the mall and I saw a guy with a chain running from his lobe to his nostril). But for the sake of time, I'll fast-foward about 12 years. I'm in the process of getting out of a very serious, very long term relationship with my high school sweetheart. He was very controlling over me. He chose who I could be friends with, where I could work, even my hair color (BLACK). For the first time in years I feel free. So to celebrate my freedom, I decided to dye my hair purple and go get a body mod. I actually wanted another tattoo, but I'm very picky with my tats, so after about a week of pondering the issue, I decided on a tongue piercing instead. It just seems less permanent, and since I've never had a real piercing, I thought it would be a good place to start.

I called up my brother in law who knows way more about body mod than me, to point me in the right direction. He suggested I go see a buddy of his (Greg) at Skinworx. I was all for it, and since they were open on Tuesdays (my off day) I went to the ATM and drove down there. Piercing+Barbell=$40. I was completely bummed when I walked in the door an the pace was PACKED. Greg was busy working on a tat, and the chick at the counter said I'd have to come back tomorrow at noon... I was like, no way! I set my heart on getting my tongue pierced that day and I was!!!

So, on the way home I passed Evil Ink, and saw the sign, "PIERCINGS $35" The place looked about empty, so I decided this was the place. I went in and "Bob" (I cant remember his name) was working on a tattoo, but was almost done. I looked around, and found my next tattoo, 2 dragons with a flaming lotus flower in the center. I sat back and chilled. Some chicks came in, and one was really nervous about getting her first tattoo, but she had piercings, so we talked, and next thing I knew it was my turn to go under the needle.

Anyway, Bob finished and I signed my papers, and I was led to a pretty sterile room and asked he me to sit in what looked like a dentist chair. Bob joked with me for a few minutes, I guess I looked nervous or something, went over the procedure, and then handed me some Listerene (NASTY), so I rinsed my mouth and he told me to stick my tongue out. I told him I wanted it more to the front, because I like to lick (plus I have a gag reflex toward the back of my throat sometimes, and I didn't want the thing to choke me in my sleep or something). He said no problem and put the clamp on. Now that hurt. I was like OW! I don't like needles, so I closed my eyes, next thing I know I feel a pop and the clamp is gone, and I have my tongue pierced. I didn't even know he put the needle in. I swear, it really didn't hurt. Bob then went over aftercare and told me to suck on ice chips for swelling and take some Midol. The big bummer was NO ORAL CONTACT FOR 6 WEEKS!!! I so want to kis s a guy with this thing.. I cant wait to take my new toy for a test drive.

The next 3 days were no fun at all. My tongue decided to swell so bad I could barely talk, and since my job depends I it, I started to freak out. I didn't want to take the thing out, so I just kept to the Midol and aftercare, and by day 4 the swelling was almost gone and I could eat solid food again. Mmm, hamburgers :) The plus side to this was I lost like 4 lbs. Which, I must admit was an added bonus.

One week later, I can eat fine, the swelling is gone, and the only problem is I have a slight lisp. I'm learning on how to get around it though, and my friends tell me it's getting better every day. To anyone who wants a tongue piercing I say GO FOR IT! I love mine! And really, what's better than a chick with 2 metal balls in her mouth? If your confused or need more info check out BMEzine.com, i wish i would have found it before my piercing! Needless to say, I want more now. I'm thinking of a nostril stud or an eyebrow ring... So, here's to the first of many!
