I've always wanted a tongue ring. Call it immature or whatever you would like. For some reason I think tongue rings are sexy. Something about metal in someones mouth excites me. I've always been to scared to get my tongue pierced though. I thought I could die if I don't take care of it or it could get cut off from infection. I also thought I will sound stupid and have a bad lisp and will never be able to talk ever again! Well, I had recently been thinking about it and decided, "Hey what the hell! You only live once. What do I really have to lose?" Oh yeah! My tongue!

This past Friday I decided I would stop being a chicken and go get my tongue pierced. My girlfriend has hers done and said she would like it if I had mine as well. Well... for a few days I asked around and I talked to some people I knew. I asked around five people if it hurt, they all said no because they couldn't remember. They said no but that the swelling is terrible. They said they couldn't eat or talk for a few days. They told me I wouldn't be able to talk the next day at work and to call in sick. This was a bad thing because I had to wait tables all day the next day.
I decided to go anyways. I would go to work even if I sounded like an idiot. I made my older brother go with me. I wanted my girlfriend to be there but she just moved to a different state. I was pissed off that she couldn't be there. So my brother and I went to this first place. I went to this one tattoo parlor where my cousins boyfriend goes all the time. When I arrived there was so many people inside. There was around thirty to thirty five people. One of the tattoo artists told me it would take an hour to get pierced.
So we decided to go down the street to the place I always go to to get pierced. I didn't like this place very much. The guy that usually pierces me scares me. But Friday night Shea was working instead of my piercer Scott. Shea my piercer told me it would take around five minutes to get pierced. She made me fill out the usual paper work. So my brother and I waited around. Soon enough it was my turn.
She told me to take a seat and to start concentrating on my breathing. She told me to take deep breaths. I was so nervous. It was hard for me to concentrate on anything let alone my breathing. I kept thinking about the great pain I was about to receive in my mouth. If biting your tongue hurts how bad can the piercing be? I thought I would die or become paralized at once when she pierced my tongue. Shea said the worst part is washing your mouth out with Listerine. I didn't believe her for two seconds.
Shea walked over to me and marked where she was going to pierce. She started laughing at me. What? I asked. She said she had gotten purple marker all over my mouth when she marked my tongue. She kept laughing for a minute and that helped me loosen up a bit. Next, she told me to stick my tongue out as far as possible. Then clamped my tongue down and told me to close my eyes. I was shaking I was so nervous. She told me to keep breathing in and out very slowly. She said when you breathe in and start to breathe out I am going to pierce you. As I took in a deep breath and started to let it out there was a sharp pain flowing through the middle of my tongue. And then it was over. I felt fine.
Then Shea gave me proper cleaning supplies for five dollars. She also gave me a sheet on how to cleanse my tongue properly. She told me to call if I had any questions or concerns. When we left I started jumping around. I was so excited! It didn't hurt but it felt weird. When I tried to talk I could feel a piece of metal inside my tongue, an unusual feeling I might add. I went home, took a few tylenol, and passed out. The next day I took some more tylenol. My swelling was fine. You could understand me just fine. I have a small lisp. My girlfriend makes fun of me but she says I'm only cuter. I love my new piercing and plan on getting another one tonight! I recommend getting your tongue pierced to anyone! Don't be scared. The pain lasts for a few seconds.
