Yesterday was our first day off for Easter, 2 and a half weeks off school!! Since our school, like many, do not allow tongue piercings, which I have wanted now for, well only a few months actually, I needed to let it heal and be able to wear a retainer in school so no one can see it, well I hope it heals anyways! So I thought that since I was coming in to town yesterday for my theory driving test, that I would go and see about getting it done.

However, minutes after booking this appointment for herself, she chickened out and phoned up, and for some reason unknown to her and myself, she kept the appointment, but changed the name to mine.. for me to get mine done.
I weirdly thought this was fine though, and just left it!
Yesterday came, and my mother and I got up and went into town for breakfast, before I went for my theory test. I broke the news to her over a scone and orange juice that I had booked an appointment. She wasn't best pleased, but since I had turned 18 last week, she said I am responsible for my own actions, and gave me her blessing!
I went for my theory test.... and PASSED!
Even more reason to get my tongue pierced: celebrations!
Anyways, I met my friends in town, went for a foot long sub in subway, and then headed for the Skinworks in Belfast city centre. I have gotten all of my ear piercings except my anti tragus done there. Good place.
The piercer knew it was me who wanted my tongue done when we went in, and so he gave me my form to fill out, and my other friend filled hers in for her navel. I was crapping myself, scared.. I was fine for my ear piercings, but they are just ears... this was my tongue! a vital muscle in my body, but i wanted something fun in my mouth and knew it would all be worth it in the end! So the 3 of us sat and talked to the piercer, and read some aftercare info about our piercings. I went to the toilet and the piercer told me to come into the studio when I was ready, after using the bathroom. So inside I said a little prayer!! how cute, but I really did! and came out shaking, collected my friend and we entered the little piercing room.
I was still really scared, but I was getting better. Think I was scared of the pain of the actual piercing at this point rather than something bad happening to my much needed tongue. Anyways, the piercer looked at my tongue a few times and then said 'ok' - I had to put anaesthetic on my own tongue, with the aid of cotton buds, and i used every single cotton bud, I wasn't risking any pain! Then I was clamped and dotted, and was shown the needle being opened. The needle was put through and I felt a lot of pressure but no pain, at all, and I was well pleased, and putting the jewellery in couldn't have been more pain free! I was well chuffed. I had in place a PFTE fibre bar, quite a long one to allow for swelling. I had to rinse my mouth out with water to take away all the blood, of which there was a lot, but I didn't drool at all!
It felt really weird to be able to feel 2 big metal balls in my mouth, the first balls I will ever have in my mouth that is! My friend said she was jealous and wanted hers done, but she was waiting until the summer for the sake of her parents. Bless her! The piercer went through the aftercare, and had a wee bit of banter!
After my friend got her navel done, we paid and left.
My tongue started to swell later on that day and evening as we walked round town and came home. I was able to drink some pure orange juice with ice in it, which seemed to sooth the uncomfort! I only managed to eat a few french fries for dinner that nite, as it was really hard to eat.
Today my tongue is still quite swollen, and it is still hard to eat, but I have managed a few malteser chocolates, a bowl of tomato soup, a slice of bread, half a sausage, and a wee bit of pancake, oh yeah, and some ice cream which was easy enought to eat! Feels really weird still, being able to feel 2 big metal balls everytime i move my tongue or mouth. But no doubt it will be grand.. I just hope my aftercare is satisfactory for my tongue.
I have to go and get this current PTFE disposable bar exchanged for a titanium, normal tongue bar, i think it is titanium, though not sure! That is next Friday, now 6 days.
I love my new tongue piercing, even if it is very common and not original, unlike my anti tragus which isn't a happy bunny! Just one more thing, I love anaesthetics, topical ones at that. I don't think I could ever get a piercing other than earlobes without that numbing stuff! It's great!
