Body piercing has been my love since I was about 13. I received my first tongue piercing at this age, and I loved it. I then got my eyebrow pierced when I was 14 and my labret at 16. After two years of not having anything pierced, I started to get very anxious. I had to find another piercing that would fit life style. At my work I can't have any piercings so this made for a hard task. I then decided that my tongue was the best to go for. I loved the piercing, and saw the huge outburst of people getting it done just because it was "cool." This in mind I wanted to show everyone that I didn't get it just for the popularity of it, but because I truly loved it. So I decided to go in and get another one.

My birthday had happened about two weeks when I decided that I was going to go through with it. I wasn't scared about the pain, because there was none for me. I was scared of having a lisp. The first piercing I didn't have a lisp, even after getting it ripped the night I got it in a car accident. So I was thinking the second time I may not be so lucky. But since I didn't do anything for myself on my birthday I decided this was going to be my present to myself. I was also scared though because I was told by my first piercer that I had "weird" veins in my tongue. So I had to go to a place that I would feel safe. I was told about this doctor who had his own piercing studio. So this is where I decided to go. My friends and me loaded up into my car and we took off for the 25-minute drive. Once we got into the town, I realized I hadn't eaten anything all day. From previous experience I knew eating for about a week after getting your tongue pierced is a very hard task. So I went to Wendy's and eat till I was about to explode. Smoking also isn't very good for your piercing so I smoked about three cigarettes before I went into the place.

Walking inside I felt very much at peace, no butterflies or anything. The nice lady greeted me and as I took a moment to look around I walked back to the counter and said that I wanted to get my tongue pierced.... Again. The lady smiled and said the doc is just finishing up and he will be able to get me in right away. She gave me out the form to fill out and then asked me for my ID. Then out came the doc. He was very nice and made me feel safe. After looking at the form and my ID he told me that since it was my second he couldn't promise anything, but to come into the back room and he could see what he could do for me. I asked if my friends could come with me and he said "yes" which surprised me since all of my other piercers said no to that question.

He told me to sit in the dentist chair and to watch him pull out all the new and sterile equipment. He clamped my tongue and then made a remark about my "weird veins", which I still don't know why they are weird. He made his first dot, and after I looked at it I didn't like the placement at all. It was too close to my first one in the front. He told me that this will be tricky, but he'll see if it can be done. The second dot looked good and I told him to pierce it. As my friends sat on the edge of their chairs the doc stuck the needle through my tongue. I then put my tongue back in my mouth. With the two large barbells in my mouth it was hard to swallow. He then made me rinse my mouth out again with the nasty yellow mouthwash. I went to the bathroom to look at my new piercing and I was nothing but smiles. I paid him for the piercing, which I found out they were having a sale on tongues for twenty dollars. I gave him a tip and thanked him. He gave me some of his bu siness cards and a bumper sticker and told all of us to tell our friends about him.

My tongue hurt so bad that night I wanted to die. I could talk fine, but it was just so sore. I couldn't eat anything, and all I could taste was the yellow nasty mouthwash. After a few days I started to get a little bit of a lisp from having so much metal in my small mouth. My right lymphoid also was very swollen, which made it hard to swallow. After about two weeks the swelling started to go down, and in the third week I changed the very long barbells in my mouth to smaller ones which made my small lisp go away. I could eat fine and there was neither pain nor infections.

I have had my double tongue rings now for almost a year, and I would have to say I love them very much. People like to label me now as "weird" and a "freak" but that is why I'm glad I don't give a shit what people think. I love my piercings and I would never take them out. I very much recommend going to the doc if you're in the Dekalb area. His shop is called Out On A Whim and I would trust him with any of my piercing needs.
