Well it's been just over a week since I had my tongue pierced (again). I was only supposed to be there to support Amy, my girlfriend who was having her nose pierced, but was tempted when Amy suggested I get another one. I can't help thinking maybe that was her intention all along, and getting her nose pierced was the price she was prepared to pay for it.

Let me tell you, when you don't speak the language very well, a piercing can be a scary experience! This time it was anything but scary. Sure it was partly because I had been through it before, but I guess it showed me how important communication is when it comes to piercing.
Anyway, after I had agreed to get another piercing we had a few hours to kill. We went and ate a huge meal at Lone Star because I knew I'd be only eating mushy food for a while after I got it done. I prepared myself for the pain and went back in the afternoon. We had already heard all about their concern for health and safety, so Kara just chatted with us about what we'd been up to that afternoon. It was a really clean place and I don't think I had anything to worry about in terms of my safety. Once I got talking to Kara I started to relax because I felt like she wasn't in any hurry to get that needle into my tongue. I let her know that I wanted the piercings lined up, but didn't really care which part of my tongue the new one went on as long as it wouldn't hurt too much. She gave my tongue a quick once-over and decided that the new one could go directly in front of the old one. That would be easier for her and less painful for me she assured me.
She marked the spot and got the clamp all set up. Now I know I sound like a real wimp with all my talk about pain, but this is where I redeem myself. The needle didn't actually hurt this time. Sure it was uncomfortable, but there wasn't any real pain. Amy asked Kara if it's always so easy and she started telling some horror stories that she'd heard including veins and re-piercings. I was pleased that she'd waited until after my piercing until she told us. I felt like a real hero not showing any signs of pain, but if they had seen me in Japan they definitely would have known how much of a wimp I am.
This one is healing quite rapidly and the swelling hasn't been too bad at all. Kara told me that since I didn't have too many problems after I got pierced last time, this time should be no different. That made me feel better, and so far it's turned out that she was right.
I'm still getting used to having more of a mouthful of metal, but I'll always love the way it feels. I can't wait to start playing with them in my mouth, and Amy can't wait until we start kissing like real people again. Every time she complains I remind her that it was her idea in the first place. I'm getting used to mushy food but I can't wait until I actually stop thinking about my tongue piercing before every meal.
People have been commenting on my new piercing all the time. Almost no one noticed the old one, so it's kind of strange. I guess it could be because it's further forward on my tongue. Maybe it's because it's still quite new and I'm trying to get people to notice it. I'm really pleased with the way the two piercings look together and in a way I wish I had got them both done at the same time. They aren't lined up perfectly (everyone just says I'm a perfectionist) but they look pretty good. I love when people start talking about piercings and I can show them mine. I haven't met anyone else with two tongue piercings yet, so I felt kind of special. That was of course until I checked out this site and saw that it's actually quite common. Damn! Now I'm going to have to find something else to make myself unique. I think next time I'll have to go behind the two that I have. I know it will probably hurt more than these two, but it may well be worth it. A few people have ca lled my piercings "self mutilation" and others have said "I thought you would have learnt your lesson last time" but I have absolutely no regrets at all. I think eventually two piercings will become the new standard. We all keep pushing the boundaries of what's acceptable.
