When I got my tongue pierced for the first time, I had no idea that anyone would even think about getting it done twice. I had no idea about a lot of things that people do. I went back into Eternal Tattoo one day (where I had my first one done) and was talking to the body piercer, Shannon about jewelry, and happened to notice that she had it done twice. Needless to say, I was amazed, and became determined to get it done.

It didn't end up happening for almost a year though. I moved in with a friend and she told me that she had gotten her tongue pierced at Heritage Tattoo in Bay City. She was really happy with it and said that the piercer Buddha (I don't know him by any other name) did a great job. I was pretty set on doing it, but never had the cash.

One day she called me up and was like, "Hey, I'm in the parking lot at Heritage; you want to get something done, I'll pay for it?" So of course, I drove right on over. It only took me a few minutes to decide on what I was doing, so I just had to wait around for my turn. I filled out all the necessary paperwork, almost freaked out thinking that I didn't haven any I.D., but I found it, and we were good to go.

I followed Buddha into the room and we started talking about placement and such, as how I already had one current one. Now, I knew that my first one was slightly crooked. I told him that I just wanted my second one to line up with the first – I specifically said DO NOT worry about making it straight. I just wanted them to line up and look good. He grabbed his needle and wha-lah! I now had two barbells through my tongue.

I was ecstatic of course, sticking my tongue out at everyone I saw on the way home. I had very little pain and swelling over the next two days, but I took Motrin's just in case. I began to worry about it being a little bit crooked though. I know that my first one was crooked, but it was only looking worse now because the other one wasn't lining up at all. At first I thought that it might just be because of the longer barbell that was in, but after a few days I took it out and put in a shorter one, and yep, it was crooked.

I was pissed. I immediately called Heritage to see if Buddha was working, and he was, so I headed out there to talk to him. I got there and all he said to me was, "Okay, I redo it for you. Take it out and come back in a week." That really wasn't what I expected from him, so I was still pissed. And now I had to take it out and do it all over again.

When I took it out I realized that I had this huge lump of scar tissue. It was quite painful to push on it, so I was a bit leery of going back and getting it done again. But I wasn't going to waste my money on it, so a week later I headed back.

Once again, I specifically told him NOT to worry about making it straight on my tongue. Just line it up with the first barbell. He said okay and began preparing to stick yet another needle through my tongue. Now, to me, getting my tongue pierced has never hurt...slightly uncomfortable yes, but never pain. But this time, it HURT. I had tears running down my cheeks and I swear I must have just about broken my friend's hand from squeezing it so hard.

I got out of the chair and went and looked in the mirror. It still looked crooked to me, but I decided that I would wait until it healed to say anything else. A couple of weeks later I put in a shorter barbell and was very upset to see that once again he had ignored what I had asked him to do. The barbell was still mostly straight in my mouth. The top hole was not even lined up with my first barbell. It was way cockeyed. I didn't know what else to do. I didn't want to have to take it out again and have to go through piercing it again. That would have been too much trouble, and plus, who could guarantee that it would be the way I wanted it the next time?

Now don't get me wrong. I like Buddha and all the guys up at Heritage, but I will never get pierced there again. It's not worth going through everything just to be unhappy with it in the end.
